Where a lot of the melt is coming from.

Breese for sure fills a need but no one thought Smith would be there at 29. I hope Breese kicks arse obviously.

I don't care what you say about "not fitting a scheme", dude is a 4.39 badass that you probably take when he falls to you.

Where would you play him?

Hand on the ground 235lb DE?

I agree with you in that Nolan is a really good talent with playmaking skills at LBer that you better a have good reason for passing on and letting him fall to the damn Eagles who won the draft last nite as for as I'm concerned. Bresee better be that good reason for them to pass on Nolan.

These 2 sentences don't really go together

I don't care what you say about "not fitting a scheme", dude is a 4.39 badass that you probably take when he falls to you.

Can't justify the fact that you think the team should take him because you don't pass on that talent, when 29 players were drafted before him. Therefore, a lot of teams did their evaluation and felt he was worth passing on, regardless of his 40 time.

Also, you don't care what scheme he fits, but the defense primarily plays with a 4 man front and 2 LBers. How many times do they need to fail at drafting a 3-4 OLBer and trying to make them a hands in the ground DE before they stop doing that? And, with one of the best D-lines in college in front of him for the past 2 years, wouldn't his stats be more impressive if he was this can't miss guy? Not saying he won't be great in the NFL, but there's a reason he fell and a reason his stats don't jump out at you

No one had Smith as a first day pick before the combine. He had the biggest stage to show out on the best defense in the country two years running.

He’s 238lb with short arms and no real pass rush bag. The antithesis of what we need at DE in our scheme. He certainly has a place but it’s ok for a guy to not be a fit

So you want a guy that is undersized, injury prone, and never put up any numbers just because he is fast?

These types of guys never work in the NFL. Both Chaisson and Mingo put up better numbers than Smith in college AND were bigger than him and both failed because undersized guys that don't dominate college don't all of sudden dominate NFL tackles.

edit: I am not saying that Mingo and Chaisson weren't good for LSU, just that they didn't dominate like Chase Young or even Arden Key for that one season.

How often do you hear about guys getting moved or suddenly playing better when they go to a team that fits their scheme.

Breese looks like a nice player and fits a need. I’m glad we didn’t have to trade picks for him and move up 2 spots like last year.

except the 29 teams who didn't take him.

Again, there are 29 NFL GM's who disagree. But what do they know?

Someone has been studying the Al Davis draft manual.

If he’s so great then why’d 28 other teams pass on him?

If you do not care about scheme, you do not follow the NFL closely and are just watching for combine results.

Another person who doesn't understand football. We had a DT years ago that was drafted in the 3rd or 5th from LSU, and that DT was let go before the season started. He then went to the bears and was great for them in their system. He had 2 pro bowls ect. You don't change your defensive scheme to fit one player.

We've already lived through this story multiple times with this franchise and coaching staff in the last decade. It doesn't work. I'm ecstatic I don't have to live through another 3 years of cramming a square peg in a round hole. Saints made the right pick.
