It’s almost like they want everybody to be fat and slow for some reason.

In all seriousness, you have a drug that’s been shown to counteract a huge problem in this country caused by processed, sugary, high carbohydrate foods that are EBT staples and the governments here and in Canada are fighting against it….why????

Lobbyists and kickbacks. The same reason that so many people that are in high levels at the FDA and CDC all used to work at pharmaceutical companies. And when they retire they get very plush consulting jobs back at those same pharmaceutical companies.

They aren't cracking down on Ozempic or Wegovy. They are trying to eliminate the competition from pharmacies who compound the active semaglutide and sell it to medspas and weight loss clinics.

So the makers of ozempic/Wegovy/etc. spend millions on R+D, safety studies, etc. They get FDA approval. They have a patent. Compounding pharmacists decide to make their own.

It’s essentially a bootleg LSU shirt or a Saints jersey made in China. The injectable version of a Chinatown “Rolex” watch or “Chanel” purse.

I guess the compounding pharmacists got used to the Brett Favre compounding money back in the day, and this is their new cash cow.

And if/when long term side effects are found, they won’t sue xyz compound pharmacy, they will sue the legit makers of the drug.

Has anyone heard that the LA state pharmacy board is banning semaglutide ?

I hope not, I use my Ozempic weekly to manage and control my type II diabetes. There has been a shortage in which my refill lapses a few days.

So LA officials are just trying to protect a pharmaceutical company's profits by banning the compounded versions of it.

Nah man. There is a lot of state and federal pharmacy law regulating Compounding/repackaging ANY commercial drug, not just expensive brands for very good reasons.

The practice is only allowed for certain drugs in extreme shortages and subverting repackaging/patent law to sell through weight clinics risk violation of some federal and state pharmacy law if they aren't careful. Especially if they are using the non approved sodium salt of semaglutide which is not FDA approved and also isn't in short supply. Like most of them are doing.

Legal & Regulatory Developments in 503A Compounding

The manufacturer created that shortage by repackaging their starter box and launching Wegovy and that slowed supply down. The greed and prices of these products is shameful and I'm not defending that. You say the law protects pharma profits, but allowing clandestine compounders in a gray area all cash pay market using ingredient source/sellers that are knowingly profiting from subverting US patent law is insane and a risk to public especially for injectable drugs. This exact scenario is literally what compounding/repackaging laws exist to prevent.

The clinics in Houston you mentioned are going to be made to stop because novo is suing the ones selling the ingredient and will easily win.

LABoP is a very strict enforcement Board they will definitely squash any compounding with the semaglutide sodium salt. They will take separate action on the pharmacy and the pharmacists and will publish it in their legislative newsletter. Whatever profit they made the LA board will destroy with fines.

All the more reason for me to stock up on a year's supply for $336, now while it's still available. I don't mind undercutting my favorite people, the pharmaceutical companies that always have our best interests at heart. Lol.

I’ve been on Ozempic for the last 4 months after being diagnosed with Type 2. I’ve lost 20% of my body weight, it really is an amazing drug that works. Banning it makes no sense. It is labeled for weight loss under the name Wegovy. Why ban it?
Also never really experienced any shortage. Most I had to wait for my script was two days.

I do agree that a lot of the "just quit eating junk and exercise" posts seem flippant but I disagree with the quoted line because it implies that losing weight is easy for most (or many) people. It's not. It's "seriously hard" for those that manage to do it as well, and the fact that some people are able to do it and some people aren't doesn't mean that it's easier for people that are successful.

Don’t get mad at me because you haven’t researched the drug enough. What are your thoughts on it significantly decreasing lean body mass? Gut motility and cancer?
