In general, the even numbered Trek movies (TWOK, TVH, TUC, FC) are better than the odd numbered ones. Nemesis is the exception to that rule as it’s just awful. However, Insurrection might be worse. The Search for Spock isn’t bad, but I can’t even watch TMP.

I loved the first ST movie. You need to understand, those of us who had grown up with TOS had had nothing except a cartoon for years.
The original set of films pretty much mirror Star Trek TOS over it's three seasons. You have your thinking man's film, your great action film, a comedy, some decent movies, and a Spock's Brain what-were-they-thinking flick.

For me, the first season or so was a hard to get through. I think I have watched nearly all the Star Trek there is, and it took me a couple tries to get through the first season of DS9. Its definitely worth it. Death to the opposition.

ST4 - Voyage Home is my favorite of the Star Trek films, probably with First Contact and Wrath of Khan tying for close second. VH and FC of them had excellent musical scores. Really the only two I didn't like were ST5 (which was mystifyingly bad - but did offer up a couple of memorable lines) and Nemesis which felt like a filler episode, thrown out there when the creative people have all gone on vacation, more than a proper movie
You should consider having a go at DS9. Just do a search on the top twenty fan-rated episodes and begin watching them in order from the earliest. Maybe start with Season 1, episodes 1&2 beforehand to kick that off. Perhaps consider doing the same with Voyager. There's some decent sci-fi in there, even excluding the fact that it's Star Trek universe.

Ive wanted to get into star trek but dont know where to even begin.
I have seen the 3 recent movies. So I would prob prefer the best of the most recent stuff and not like the old series from the 60s. But looking at paramount there is just so much shite.

It saves the time of extolling its virtues. It’s a great show on its own.

Start with the original motion picture and go for as long as you like it. The 5th movie sucks but the 6th is really good. With the TGN crew it picks up a lot after season 1, the first Movie is not good and you can skip Picard seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 was good.
