David Griffin says off-season more about tweaks than big moves

David Griffin Off-season
Website is Yard Barker but it’s a Nola.com article. Looks like any dreams of getting Myles Turner or a good point guard can go out the window.

I mean everyone kind of knew this. Injuries will be the main excuse for the way this season panned out. And I say excuse loosely because it’s really not an excuse. If BI and Zion stayed healthy we would have had over 50 wins easily. Hell, even if Ingram would have came back sooner(without Zion) and got in his groove, we would have been good.

I'm looking for the biggest changes to be on the coaching staff.
We've discussed JV ad nauseum, but it's just going to be near impossible to upgrade and prohibitively expensive to sidegrade.
To me the key is something I don't know how much I trust this staff to be good at. That's projecting how good their developmental talent will be.
- Are Matkovic and Liddell going to be rotation worthy? If so, how soon?
- Do you have enough backup creation between Jose, Dyson, Kira and Seabron?
Based on how the season went it feels like they still need to add a 3rd big and a shooter and they have a glut of redundant backups they need to choose from.

Everybody mentions trading JV, and I’ve always wondered, who is 1. Available, and 2. Of those available, who is actually better?
You’ve seen this team struggle to rebound without him, and his scoring presence is a huge part of the offense. Would I think it’s smart to get a more athletic big who can protect the rim and run — which should’ve been Hayes, but that hasn’t worked out — yes, I do. I don’t think you do that by trading JV, but by upgrading that fourth big from Billy/Hayes.
Secondly, you’ve got to have another efficient scorer with some volume who can shoot off the bench besides Trey. The Naji/Dyson/etc do not provide any offense at all. You can’t have your bench filled out with just 41/33 guys.

It’s clear Willie was phasing out JV all year. We can talk all we want about how good of a player he is. And he is. But Willie Green showed us all fricking year, including the most important game of the season, how they view JV.

They need to upgrade:
Naji for a vet creator
Willy with a guy like Drew Eubanks
Jax with a shooter
14th pick for a shooter.

Jval would be the only "big" move we would realistically make so the Griff quote makes sense. We made the big move last season. We now have 3 $30mil dudes, so we're not making another big move near that level.

And we lost because he wasn't on the court

Pretty obvious Griff. Is putting up smokescreens. Why would he tell anyone his ideas. Even he is not as stupid as some of you on this forum. Your only defense is calling it trolling.

Told y’all. Willie anf Grif are stubborn. Nothing will change. It will all be blamed on injuries.

What exactly do you want them to change or do for some massive shakeup? If you’re not blaming injuries anymore then you’re trading one of BI/Zion.

If he acknowledged that shooting is priority and not just something they can fix within the program, I’d consider that a major step.

Hopefully one of the tweaks is getting rid of his arse. Tired of listening to his snake oil salesman BS

Willie Green needs a hype man coach (for him).
He's also a loyalist to a fault.
I like Willie Green. I think he can turn this around with Zion.
Zion's head isn't in the game because "fans" are assholes.

is that inaccurate though?
Its certainly not the only problem but it is the biggest reason why this season tanked.
I'd like to see them tell Nelson to frick off. I don't think its all on him but he's clearly not the guy we thought we were hiring. Could new leadership there really do any worse?
