Triple on a ball Jobert fell out of a tree to miss
How did that guy get that job?

He called the fly ball that should have been caugh in the first inning of game 1 a hit also so at least he is consistent.

Jobert misplayed it so badly that he wasn't close enough to the ball to score it an error, LOL!!
Thats just sad…….

New to baseball in the 21st century? This is how they score shite these days even at the MLB level. It is like 4 guys watching a ball drop by the mound or Thompson misjudging multiple pop ups last season. It is complete BS.
And for what it’s worth White’s should have been called an error.

If you don’t touch the ball until it hits the ground, it’s not an error
Never has been

It’s a scorer’s rule….although a stupid one….that if a fielder doesn’t touch the ball then it’s a hit no matter how easy the play is.

It is a garbage rule

Yep. Didn’t we have a player pop up a ball that was misplayed and bounced off the mound that was ruled a double a few weeks ago against Tennessee?

quote:Thats the case for plays like Jobert last night but it isn’t literal. If someone squares up on a ground ball and let’s it roll through their legs without touching it it would still be scored an error, as would a dropped pop up if the defender camps under it and just whiffs on the catch.

You think that is a 21st century thing? That would have been ruled a triple by Abner Doubleday.

Not correct. This is the rule:
“ The Official Scorer shall charge an outfielder with an error if such outfielder allows a fly ball to drop to the ground if, in the Official Scorer's judgment, an outfielder at that position making ordinary effort would have caught such fly ball.”
I think most people would agree “an outfielder at that position making ordinary effort would have caught such fly ball” in the case of Joubert last night.

Not sure about that Sparky.

90 ft. He was even with the bag. Still a base hit imo.
Jobert was 100% an error.

That’s because you clearly know nothing about baseball. In MLB, minor leagues, college, high school, if the outfielder doesn’t touch it with his glove it’s not an error. The official scorer last night can’t change that.

When ball isnt touched by any defender, its a text book hit.
A ball smoked right at someone and person kicks it, can be called a hit or an error. Depends on how the ball was hit. Smoked or hard ground ball or dribbler.

Both were scored correctly. For all the baseball experts here, y'all don't know shite.

In the game thread I called White's error a base hit and Jobert's misplay an error - scorer disagreed obviously.
I score it how I see it in my mental scorebook regardless

so why have written rules if what you think is all that matters?
