Memory foam - Tempur-Pedic is king, but there's some good cheaper alternatives these days.
Latex - A couple of different kinds of latex out there. You will just have to lie on them and see what you like best.
Innerspring -- Sealy, Serta and all the big box brands make decent ones. You can also get some smaller brands that are good as well. There's also many luxury brands in this space that will cost a lot. They use feaathers from an angel's wing, the best metal for springs, the best organically grown wool, horse tails cut from Kentucky Derby winning horses, etc. If you're an OT baller, some of them will cost $100,000 or more.
Hybrid - This means pocket coils with either memory foam or latex tops. Just about everyone makes them, including Tempur-Pedic.
Air - Sleep Number is king in this space, but there's several knock-offs now as well.
Purple - they use their weird grid rubbery stretchy material. It's an alternative to memory foam and latex. A couple of knock-offs now as well.
Bed in a Box - Too many to count. You can get them with pocket coils, hybrid, or 100% memory foam. Some are good, some aren't

Here in the DFW area there are DropBox stores opening up everywhere. Tons of options on the LOW price. Its a scam, the guy told me like 3 brands that are made by the same group. we had a Casper for 7 years and was looking. Found a new one so nice.
But for real if you have been on the same one for 10 years anything will feel good. The new plan is every 5 years from now on

"We had a shitty mattress for years. But the bullet on a tempurpedic luxe breeze. One of the most expensive purchases my broke arse ever made."
--
Went mattress shopping about two years ago. The salesman kept upgrading the Tempu-pedic I was laying on. Each one was better than the last. Then he hit the Zero Gravity feature and I felt like I was on a cloud!! I told my wife to get the check book.
I suffered for decades with lower back pain and it basically went away.
That adjustable feature is like a king-size lounger. Expensive but worth every penny.

We bought the cheapest mattresses for years. Finally splurged and bought a Saatva. Incredible difference.

We bought a Purple (yes, the brand is named Purple) king a few years ago and love it. The king was like $2500 or so when we got it. They have a bunch of different options for how you sleep.

Watch the price, occasionally a california king is 260ish.
The best mattress I've ever had.
The Zinus is far cheaper than anything but mattresses at Sams or built in a warehouse somewhere in the metro area. Best mattress I've ever had as a big boi.
Doc suggested I plan on replacing it every 3 years, but even at the post COVID cost, that's an easy hurdle.
Nearly every mattress in the US is made at two factories, whether it's Vera Wang, Sealy, Brooks and Foster, etc. Do you notice how the exact same mattress model isn't sold at both Mattress King and their nearest retail strip center competitor? It's solely so you can't compare price apples to apples.
Buy online, return it if you don't like it.

Brooklyn Bedding
Best mattress ever.
I have one and talked 5 people into one.
It's fricking awesome. Every night I lay in it and am so happy with this thing. 4 years later and it's still awesome.
Get their pillows too.
Back when I bought I got a ming, sheets, two pillows for $850 to my house.
I used my box springs.
Wife thought I was nuts. She brought up the mattress they other day randomly. She still laughs about buying in off the internet in a box.

Wholesale Mattress and Factory on Florida. They'll make you one better than the big box stores for cheaper.
True. Just close your eyes when you go into the warehouse.

Another vote for Wholesale in BR….he’s downsized from the big building to just the small yellow one…and there will be some shady individuals making your mattress (I think some are his grandkids) so you might want to double check their tie down. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Find a closeout store. frick mattress retail.
Paid $1,200 for cal king beauty rest black that retailed for $4k.
And we got a set of sheets, too.
If you are in Atlanta area I can name a place…

Retail is completely irrelevant.
A regular king Zinus cost me 479.55 in 2020, and it's still the best mattress I've ever slept on.

Buy something firm AF that can be flipped. The throw a nice Tempurpedic topper on to adjust softness to you desired level.
You can always make a mattress softer, but it’s damn hard to go the opposite ways.

I've been sleeping on one I had him make for me (hybrid with latex - edge to edge support since I like to sleep on my side near the edge of the bed). It's a great mattress.
Far better quality than what you can find in the big box store. And it won't break down like those bed in a box after years of use.
