Late Kick

Lots of folks were in a tizzy when LSU got left out of Pate's top 10 programs. Here was his follow up to that.

Spoiler; he's really, really high on LSU's future.

LSU is objectively a top 10 program. There is not debate. Top 5 sure, you can debate that but it’s undoubtedly top 10

We are a preseason top 5 team with a Heisman QB and a good shot at going undefeated

His ranking was based on the past 3 years. The past 3 years, lsu was 5-5, 6-7, and 10-4. Now do u think it’s worthy of a top 10 ranking compared to those other schools?

I like Pate, but he’s a little slippery on his reasoning here.

He says he didn’t include LSU bc of 2020 and 2021, so he puts us at 11 because he looks at “the last three years” win totals. Ok, fine.

But then he goes on a tangent about ND not being overrated because the teams they’ve lost to recently are all ranked ahead of them. So now it appears he is taking into consideration what would happen right now if teams played.

He’s not applying the same standards to all teams. That’s fine, it’s his show. But you can’t argue ND deserves to be where it is because hypothetical head to heads, but then anchor LSU because for W-L record from 20 and 21.

Agreed.

Since 2000 only 13 programs have won a national championship. LSU is one of those.

Of those 13, Alabama has the most (6). LSU is second (3)

Perhaps the most impressive state of all is that of those 13 programs, only ONE has won a national championship with 3 different head coaches...LSU.

Clemson hasn't done anything without Dabo (at least in the last 30 years). Take away Saban from Alabama. Are they a national championship machine? The moment Pete Carroll left USC they became irrelevant in the championship picture. Pick your football coach. Even a completely buffoon (Orgeron) that no one else in college football (rightfully) would consider to be their HC won a title. They will likely win a championship at LSU. I don't know if there is a stronger basis to illustrate just how good the LSU program is.

He fricked that up putting us at 11 and he knows it. Too defensive, dead giveaway.

Let him. If Daniels can improve his downfield accuracy, we could have back to back Heisman winners between him and Nuss in 24.

So he’s issuing the same logic the playoff committee uses.

He's objectively a Heisman contender.

ETA: He's 5th in odds right now. That's called contending.

It's literally not up for debate. ONE SCHOOL has won 3 National Championships since 2000 with 3 DIFFERENT HEAD COACHES! If that doesn't tell you about a program's stability to be a top 5 program then I don't what does.
