The Chevrolet Camaro, for decades the dream car of many teenage American males, is going out of production.

General Motors, which sells the brawny muscle car, said Wednesday it will stop making the current generation early next year.

GM said last of the 2024 model year of the cars will come off the assembly line in Lansing, Michigan, in January.

Spokesman Trevor Thompkins said he can’t say anything more about a future Camaro. “We’re not saying anything specific right now,” he said.

If GM revives the Camaro, it almost certainly will be electric, said Stephanie Brinley, an associate director with S&P Global Mobility. “It would be unlikely to see another internal combustion engine vehicle,” she said.

GM has said it plans to sell only electric passenger vehicles worldwide by 2035.

Camaro’s scope has evolved into more of a sports car and less of a muscle car. Between the Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro….the Camaro was the most “Sports car” in character. The Challenger was the more classic muscle car. Mustang is the happy medium.

However the Camaro was more retro muscle car in styling than the Mustang, and I think that turns some people off.

Problem is that the tasty versions of the Camaro cost almost as much as a C8 Vette, and it’s nowhere near as cool. It looks like a cheaper muscle car even though it handled like it was on rails. And in its latest redesign, they made the backseat completely useless.

I’m betting that doesn’t happen. How do you not at least keep a Duramax? Farmers, construction workers, etc can’t use an electric pickup

GM never learns. This all electric push will finally put that shite company out of business. They should have been allowed to die in 2008.

if anyone there had a brain, they would figure out the reason they arent selling is they are ugly as shite and dont even look like Comaros, Chargers & Challengers, and they cost way too much.

if they made the same body styles as the 70s they couldnt restock them fast enough for the demand

Don't be fooled. Scarcity or the fear of it drives demand. GM knows exactly what they are doing.

In this inflationary environment and with the "electric car" emergence, they will sell a shitload of camaros. IT is like how guns are sold every time one of these anti-gun presidents get in the white house.

GM is going all electric. They apparently don't like money or the general public.

Perhaps will see a comeback of smaller ICE (or hybrid) sports cars like we had in the 80s and 90s???

They’ll start again in a few years. They already stopped production of the Camaro once and brought it back.

This isn't something new. Silent gen/Baby boomers got GTOs and muscle cars, and then when the economy changed (oil crisis) and government got intrusive (smog laws), they all grew up and there were only a handfull of Gen Xers to sell those cars to.

Similar situation: relatively large millennial customer base obsessed with appearances matures out of 2 door performance cars + not enough gen Z buyers with any buying power + major market & regulatory environment changes = front wheel drive shitboxes.

We don't have enough of the raw materials for all cars to be electric by 2035.
