If you're making minimum wage you have 2 of the following 3: are a felon, can't pass a drug test and/or stupid as frick.

I guess that $12 combo that was $7 a couple years ago is about to become a $16 "value" meal

That bit in Beverly Hills Cop 2 where Foley bitches about drink prices at the bar and claiming he could get blown for $7 apparently haven’t aged well.

Left up to each state, this is fine with me. Let them screw themselves.

Was in Las Vegas a few mths ago & stopped at a McDonald's for a bathroom stop. There were 2 humans in the whole place. Talked to the manager & he said McD's in Nevada was planning on going fully automated, like his store, by the end of 2024. At worst. He added that the company had been experimenting in the major cities in Europe for over 4 yrs & the model was now fully developed for implementation Stateside now. Just a matter of making all the physical changes.

If you're an adult and still only making minimum wage, you're almost assuredly some combination of 2 or more of the following: lazy, unreliable, bad attitude, can't pass a drug test, can't stay out of handcuffs, face/neck tattoos, or zero drive to do any better.
Even high school dropouts can make well above minimum wage if they're willing to actually work and be reliable. Plenty of construction and other skilled labor trades that they could work as an apprentice and learn a trade that they can make a decent career out of.

McDonald's said they see their minimum wage increase request and raise it with replacement robots.

Well the logic that people working minimum wage are underpaid also leads you to almost everyone being underpaid if you follow that logic to its conclusion.
You can train a guy on a fast food position in a day. He won't be great at it for a while, but he can do it well enough that the place isn't at risk of shutting down while hes on the clock. If someone you can replace with literally anyone off the street makes $20 an hour, a medical coder or something making $20 an hour currently in theory should get a raise because they are bringing skills to the table. Would they in practice get a raise? Probably not. And if they did it wouldn't be a $7.25 to $20 type raise.
The feels of the coder has nothing to do with the economics of hiring an employee. The cost for a basic existence is the same for the burger flipper as the coder in a given location. The coder may be able to make their nut on $20 an hour and 40 hours a week. If that is all they are doing then the minimum wage worker at $7.25 is going to be a burden on taxpayers through the dole or crime while the employer reaps the benefit. WHy we do not insist on employers footing the true and full cost of their production is beyond me but I suspect it has something to do with employers having the time and money to see to it that the taxpayer takes up the slack so they can pocket more of the revenue.

The concepts of personal accountability/responsibility and hard work/bettering yourself to lefties are no different than a crucifix to a vampire.

ALl of this is true as rain and has zero to do with the fact that a person who is lazy, unreliable, has a bad attitude, can't pass a drug test, with face tattoos, a prison record, and no drive who also ain't competent to work in the building trades is either going to be dead, a a burden to society or an employee making their own nut. We ain't gonna kill them, we know what their being on the dole means so the best option is requiring an employer to foot the entirety of their cost of production themselves.

I prefer they go to prison so their non-functional arse can be removed from society permanently.

ALl true as rain, has zero to do with that worker meeting the costs of his basic needs for living in a geographic area. The best way for all of us for that idiot to make his nut is through employment where the employer pays ALL of the cost of production out of his wallet, not mine and yours, and then sells us the shite thusly produced at a cost that those production costs are captured. His reliance on you and I to subsidize HIS livliehood has proven since time out of mind to lead to all manner of ill shite...yet we continue to do it.
The idiot who can't get a better paying job ain't going away without some trouble just because he can't make his nut everymonth. If he has a minimum wage job it means he is employed....he is at least making some effort to meet his nut through labor. We should encourage that instead of encouraging him to do what he is cut out for and that living on the dole and being a criminal...cause guess what, both of those are already costing you and I a damned fortune!

So your solution to lazy, unreliable, bad attitude employees is to pay them more...

What year was that? You can't just compare $4 -> $15 as if all else was equal
My first job paid $7 or 7.25 which is ~$9.70 today.

Do you understand that not all jobs are meant to support someone? Minimum wage jobs like burger flippers or working at a snowball stand are supposed to be for high school kids to earn a little money. It's for them to learn the concept of work and earn money to put gas in their car. It's not meant to cover their entire cost of living alone in an apartment. It's for kids living at home with their parents.
If you want to move out, get your own place, pay all your bills, you need a "big boy job" with some type of skills.
I absolutely understand that all jobs aren't supposed to support someone. That is the flip side of why I say minimum wages are an idiotic idea...it should be a living wage, based on the geographic location AND the individual employee. If you can man your burger stand make a go of it with high school kids good for you....do it, pay them as little as they will work for. If, on the other hand, your business model includes a multi million dollar free standing location on a piece of prime commercial real estate that is open from 5 in the morning until midnight, 7 days a week, you gonna have a hard time manning that location with high school kids all of the time. Depending on who you hire your costs would fluctuate wildly...it would take some MANAGING instead of reliance on the taxpayer and the muscle of the state to make a go of such an enterprise. Your reward would be knowing that you did indeed produce something of value with no help and based solely on your smarts and ability. Small change though compared to your reward being a huge pile of money collected from customers who paid for your product and then also paid for your employees cost of production out of their wallet. The cost of a burger ONLY varies by the cost of raw materials and labor. Labor is not a commodity, it is a human life, no matter how low down and dirty that human is...their needs are going to be met one of three ways, the best of which is labor for all concerned.

My first real job was $3.10 while going to night school. I stayed there for two months, and realized that working in AC was better. Got promoted to engineering dept as draftsman making $10. Felt like a fortune at the time.
High wages for no skill is how you trap humans into wage slavery (as young people call it.)

Its just a never ending cycle then.
Raise minimum wage. Then the business has to offset their labor cost increase by raising prices and/or reduces labor expenses (layoffs and/or reduction in employees' hours scheduled).
So it doesn't still solve the problem of getting people off the government's dole because now everything costs more, so welfare programs have to adjust for cost of living increases....on top of workers who either got laid off or aren't taking home any extra pay due to a reduction in their hours by employers trying to offset labor cost increases from the higher hourly rate. Just reduced the buying power of everyone else who put in the work to get ahead and not be working for minimum wage all their life.
