I can remember things in kinder that happened in detail, like going to chapel and singing songs, the smell of the room and girls I thought were cute. Teaching myself how to ride a bike on the playground. Games we had in centers, etc.

Going back to before three I can’t remember as much.

I think that's some weird phenomenon unto itself. Like when you get up to go get something you need from another room, and when you walk through the doorway you suddenly forget what you were going to get. there's something about passing through the door that makes your brain think it needs to reboot for what's coming...or something.

I forget...

The opposite for me now that I’ve gotten older, but last week is a bit foggy.

Doug Collins has a remarkable memory

over a thirteen year stretch from 2001 to 2013, I was involved with either coaching or reffing in well over 1000 basketball games and I can barely remember a dozen of them. Almost all of the ones I remember were big losses. Doug Collins can reference specific moments in games he played in from the 60s and 70s. Unreal

They say memories are actually you remembering the last time you remembered something, which is why they fade

One example. I can walk into my old first grade classroom and show you exactly where I sat and who sat around me.

I remember us having a long table in the back of the class for reading. The teacher divided the class into 3 groups. The advanced, average, and below average. I remember being at the advanced reading table. I used to whip my dick out under the table as a rush. Then during recess I would go up the sliding pole backwards because it felt good on the wiener.

I have a Buddy like that, has a damn near photographic memory of shite we did in HS and even grade school. He remembers all his teachers, who was in class with him where they sat, what songs they played in band..... I remember that I was in band, but that's about it.

Spot on. You can't remember your life exactly how it happened and it is dumb to think you can.

Your mind will always play tricks on you

Like hearing a song for the first time, and remembering when it was, in what vehicle I was in, who was with me, where we were on the road,

There are songs that, when I hear them, bring me back to certain times. It’s usually not the first time I remember hearing the song, nor is it an important event in time. Just some random time. It’s kind of weird.

I cannot. That’s impressive. It sounds a little like some of the impressive memorization of some autists that I have seen. (And I don’t intend that as any sort of jab)

I really wish my memory was this good in the academic settings. I have a bachelor’s and master’s degree but I had to work hard to get it.

I am in my upper 30’s and recall daily things my kids use to say and do when they were little. It drives my wife nuts because she can’t remember half the stories I tell her.

I was in a relationship with a woman whose adult son claimed he could remember everything from the time he was about a month old. (My SO was bat-shite crazy and her son seems to have inherited those traits).

I remember being in daycare and looking up and seeing an airplane. The only time I was ever in daycare was when I was about 18 months to two years old. I start to have coherent memories from about kindergarten age on. I remember most of my teachers from elementary school. I used to remember a lot more but it does start to fade eventually. At one time I knew the names of everybody in my fraternity pledge class, and all the shite they made us memorize. I don't any more.

I remember some certain events in good detail from early in life (3 years old or so) but it's spotty. There's details about yesterday I couldn't recall. Brain is too clogged up with work.

I don’t remember much before 2005 honestly. It’s funny in a sad kind of way when I talk to people who reminisce about their childhoods. Mine is missing from my memory. It’s just an empty space I can’t access. Katrina really wrecked my mind. It fundamentally changed how I view and interact with the world. And I spent the next decade fighting sobriety with everything in me so what I do remember from 2005-2015 is fuzzy at best.

I regret a lot of it but I can’t go back and change it. I can only learn from it and do better moving forward.

I remember a handful of things that happened each year of grade school. I remember getting in line for field day in kindergarten, I remember the mats we used to take naps on in pre-k and certain events that happened.

Seems like I can remember more things that stood out from the time I was 4-14 than things that happened from say 18-28. I’m guessing maybe because the things that happen when you are young help mold you into who you are. Less significant things when you get older, not to mention the days become more and more the same going into the same job every day

I don’t have that type of visual memory. However, I can probably name my entire first grade class (first name and last name) and most of my teachers from elementary school.

My high school sent us a post card for a high school reunion of our graduating class, and I could remember and name everyone on the postcard (about 100 people), most of whom I haven’t seen since that day, 20 years ago.

And I can remember lyrics to songs I haven’t heard in years when they come up on the radio, a bar, a playlist, etc. I won’t remember the whole song, but certain lyrics almost feel like a muscle memory.
