Wife and I are trying to plan a 5 day trip to Boston with no kids. I know of the definitive Boston thread and have frequented it looking for ideas but I was hoping to get any new places to eat or new things to do if there are any. Also, best place for a lobster roll while we are there?

So you ask a year and a half in advance of your trip? Perhaps check back in this time next year.

James Hook would be my vote for lobster roll.

Row 34 for seafood is very good. Fenway is a must. Use the T. For all other questions, ask Abita.

You're planning a Boston trip 14 months in advance...?

I took advice on that thread on my first trip and had the lobster roll from Saltie Girl (one hot and one cold) and thought they were fantastic.
And don't feel bad, I am planning vacations for summer 2024 right now.

Best place for a lobster roll (IMO) is Saltie Girl in the Back Bay.
There are new places popping up constantly, so a year and a half from now there will be a ton of options that don’t exist as I type this.
Types of food you’re looking for? Price? Helping narrow it down would help so I’m not typing every new restaurant in the city.
I keep saying I’ll update the main thread, but it’s so much work….

Not necessarily planning it now but we started talking about it so I figured I'd post and see what people had to say. I will post again I'm sure once it gets closer.

I'd say seafood and Italian are probably our favorites. And price does not matter. I am good with anything from a hole in the wall to fine dining.

For seafood:
Neptune Oyster House, Saltie Girl, Row 34, B&G Oyster House, Eventide, Bar Mezzana
For Italian:
Giacomo’s, Mamma Maria, MIDA, SRV, Sportello
I don’t consider any of the above fine dining. So for that:
Mooncusser, No. 9 Park, Menton, Mistral, Deuxave
There are plenty of other options, these are just off the top of my head.

Abita, would you happen to have any sites and food recommendations for the Maine coast? Driving from Boston to Bar Harbor in a week.

Kinda planning this at the last minute, huh?

Just dropping in to say I went to Portland, Maine last May and bought a lobster roll and thought it was one of the most bland, overpriced things I’ve ever eaten . If you’ve never had one though I’d say go for it.
A cool bar I visited in Boston during that same trip is called Drink. It’s an underground bar with limited seating that doesn’t have a menu. You get your own personal bartender and they ask what sort of drinks, liquors or flavors you’re into and they make custom stuff for you. I think like $15 per cocktail or so. It was a cool experience.

Not Abita, but if you are going to stop in Portland, go to Eventide.

I'm assuming you'll be taking 295 to 95 to get there, which would bring you right through Portland. Honestly, if you have the time I would recommend stopping there for the day/night and spending some time in Portland before making the rest of the drive to Bar Harbor.
Throw a rock in Portland and you'll hit an outstanding restaurant or brewery. Duck Fat is a great lunch spot that I highly recommend, and Bissell Brothers is an awesome brewery. But I can give many, many more suggestions if Portland is of interest.

I get excited! What can I say? I'll forget about it for a few months and probably start making real plans in the fall.
