Blew a 17 point lead to Georgia Tech in the second round and they went to the final 4 instead of us.

Georgia Tech was well balanced and more seasoned.

2 juniors who actually played and the rest were freshman and sophomores. They lost to and Georgia Tech team who also had NBA players, but also had veteran leadership.

Dale Brown. Plain and simple. Dude could recruit but couldn’t coach in crucial games.

I was in school at that time and it is amazing that basketball was KING at LSU. Baseball was making the CWS, but not winning it yet, and football was about to enter the shitter for quite a few years. Basketball games were the biggest ticket and the PMAC was always packed.

I'm reading this thread while looking at my UNLV starting line up jerseys on the wall

I’m not making excuses for Brown, but there have been other programs that have under performed . North Carolina won Jordan’s freshman year but couldn’t win the next two. They had Perkins, Doghtry, and Kenny Smith. Never made the final 4 again. Chemistry is hard to come by.

Because GA. Tech was loaded too.

They took the National Championship Team picture before the season.

No one has ever discussed this topic. They played both UNLV and Loyola Marymount at home (it was exactly 1 month a day after playing LSU that Hank Gathers dropped dead on the court) and beat both, but lost to teams like MSU and Florida who were not good.
I think they lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to someone that wasn't good at all.
What does that say about a team when you can beat good teams, but lose to bad teams? It means they have the talent to be anyone in the country, but a coach who doesn't know how to properly manage the talent.
