Supposedly, its no cash sales are allowed now.

honestly it’s long past time for jazz fest to go to RFID wristbands. I hate carrying all that cash around

The problem vendors are allegedly having is JF gets a bigger cut now. With cash sales, it was somewhat on the honor system. Plus, wifi is wonky at the Fairgrounds due to the crowds. I think the guy was just over JF in any event (and, can't say I blame him since he appears to have a thriving business without it).

No JF CB! What about a copy cat recipe, anyone have a good one? I see in the archives Rat uses an etoufe mix to make his.

He has a very busy catering business. I've been to events he's catered and I know folks who have tried to schedule him and had trouble because his calendar stays pretty full. He keeps some of his foods for sale in fridges and freezers if you're ever in the Marksville area. He also has an online business selling the crawfish, sausage and shrimp breads. I've ordered several times.
I don't know what his net profit was for jazz fest when you factor in other events he has to turn down to prepare for an attend. I suspect it has lowered.

Got more info. It is cashless now and all the vendor sales proceeds go straight to an account owned by JF. JF will then disperse to the vendors, after deducting their take and a transaction fee. Supposedly some other vendors are about to bow out - can't say I blame them under this scenario.

The vendor has their recipe online.
The whole story is the vendor is ready to retire.

$100 day passes and now they're chasing away their long-term vendors?? JF isn't that great.

So how will cashless sales go? Won’t it slow down transactions even more? Yikes

While I’m sure it’s good there’s no way it’s $120 for 3 loaves good.

Agree, not on the website for Panorama, the vendor.

In general, cash is much slower than tapping a watch, phone, card, or wristband. Nobody has to count anything.
That said, as mentioned earlier, the data network at JF is often spotty and could lead to nightmares.

Can anyone explain the contract changes?
I have heard, not sure if this is accurate, that food vendors used to pay a flat rate for their booths. I am assuming rates varied on location of your booth. Rumor is that instead of a flat rate, they(Jazzfest) want 22% of revenue.
I have heard that from 2 different people in the last 2 weeks.

That's not John Ed's recipe. He makes his own dough and if you watch the video, he tells you his mixture is a secret. In reading the end of the article, the recipe appears to be that of the writer of the article. I don't think John Ed has ever given his recipe.

20%, plus with the cashless system, they get 3.25% of very sale as a transaction fee. So, its 23.25% of all gross sales. For the small mom & pop vendors, that's goig to be tough to deal with, especially since none of the money will be sent to you by JF until after the entire festival is over; i.e., you can't use money you earned from the 1st week, to pay for expenses for week 2.

What percentage did they pay JF before this change?
