People don't sleep/eat/hydrate/exercise/get enough sunlight well
24 hour news
2 working couples have distracted what is important
Dissatisfier money is at the center of too many lives
Not enough good rock music anymore
Politics has divided us when we are, at our core, socially connected animals
Time change BS
Repeat: Not enough good rock music anymore

The Internet and the perpetual easy dopamine chase.

I would say that our mental health is directly correlated to our spiritual health. And American popular culture’s main objective is to promote spiritual rot.

In the 70's (with long care facilities in every state and major MSA (maybe 100K MSA then) you did not see homeless at all across the USA. When I was younger I was all over the USA back then.
As I actually have been dealing with this a lot since the 90's I really tend to doubt this
Personally, I think both sides lie on this issue but if you live in a decent sized city and know some of the judges who deal with this daily talk to them first before you believe the Democrat or Republican numbers.

I am closer to the 1930 number
My old man was closer to the end of the previous century
My grandmother was alive during the War of Northern Aggression.

LOL frick them kids
That shite is a choice. And I have a "real job" that relies on connection and communication - and I am "top of my class" all the time.
I'm off - back tomorrow. If the business can't function without my input for 12 hours then I'm not being paid nearly enough. And I wouldn't hesitate to tell somebody that.

I am slowly adopting this attitude too. Even when its not expected of me, I've often checked my email late at night to "lower my workload for tomorrow."
I need to stop making excuses for working after hours. I like to say that I work to live instead of living to work and I need to show this with my actions.

Kept waiting for someone to mention this. It really does make a huge difference in the way we feel.

It’s all by design. Remove the North Star of *Reality* and most simpletons will believe that every delusion is possible because there is no truth left to guide them. It’s all cultural marxism in action.

just want to say first, as someone who struggles with mental health, that I know first hand what it is like to daily battle against this.
My question for y’all today is why do you think mental health in our society has declined so much over the years? For example, think back to our grandparents era, say the 1940’s. Obviously antidepressants didn’t exist back then. I know the field of psychology was around, but did people during that time have therapy options like we do today?
I get that there has always been depressed people throughout history. I get that anxiety has always been around. Do you feel like mental health struggles are just a lot more amplified today because it is so much out in the open?
What are your thoughts on this
I think that back in the day, they coped with it by drinking too much. I am sure my dad was bi polar. He would periods of being real happy then mad real fast. But felt bad about it after an hour.
People that don't have mental health issues always have an excuse. They say suck it up. Your too soft or some other bullshite to try to shame you.
I was told years ago by doctors I was bi polar. I told them bullshite and get another Dr. I never wanted to admit it. Would have extreme highs and lows. Suicide thoughts all the time, but I have a great family and wouldn't do that to them. Meds work but the side effects suck. Make you an emotional zombie with no feelings.
I know we have some tough ole baws on here that say everybody should be like John Wayne and suck it up. But it doesn't work that way. Trust me I know. I tried that for many years and all it did was effect the people around me. When you bad lows you hate everything and and everybody even yourself. Like you are a prisoner inside your head but can't control yourself the only way to describe it. I am sure I'll get mocked by many here but it is what it is. you can't make people change their mind about it if the are dead set on the views.

There has always been a mental health issue as long as humans have existed.

It hasn't declined, people are more about it now and society is more aware of it.
Back in the day they had sanitariums, assylums, etc and people who didn't want to be responsible just sent their family members there to live out their lives.

Too many medical professionals are too quick to prescribe medication to address behavior issues before prescribing a belt, taking away phones/computers, giving kids chores, etc. These kids then grow up continuing these behaviors.
No bueno on this take. I got my arse blistered by a belt and deserved it. Parents had a grocery store growing up. I started work at ten and was paying ssi at age 12. Always had a strong work ethic but ignored signs of being bi polar. People back then called it an Irish temper. But symptoms of bi polar get worse the older you get. What got me through the young years was martial arts. Did it for a long time and was able to work out a lot of stuff through exercise. But it wasn't full prof. Still had a lot of manic episodes but tried to take it out on a punching bag. If no bag I would hit anything around me so I wouldn't take it out on someone.

There are some good answers in the thread, but the main answer is really simple. Our psyche was built around being constantly in danger and constantly in need. This required us to be constantly busy preparing defenses, gathering food, and storing for hard times. None of this is necessary any more. We are free to indulge ourselves, and the lack of boundaries causes many of us to lose our minds.

We no longer have clearly defined roles and/or purpose that is defined by a culture.
People are told the following lies:
1. You can be anything you want to be.
2. You are a winner no matter what place you finish.
3. Your feelings matter.
4. You have a right to be offended.
5. People will love you for who you are.
All of these are complete fantasies and will never lead you to happiness.

Doesn't quite work that way. Lot of it has to do with stress. You could be at work busy as hell with no time to really think, and the smallest stupidest thing could set you off. If you get on medication, you handle the same situation differently. You can actually analyze things to where you go, that sucks and say oh well.
But medication takes away emotion. My uncle died unexpectedly a few months ago. Everybody was crying and I was like a bumb on a log. I felt guilty because I couldn't fell anything. When my dad died a few years ago, I was going through a phase I didn't want to take any meds. It happens. I was a wreck.

Not the only reason, but the biggest reason is social media.
