Most of the hotel rooms for deputy sheriffs and other commanders were reserved at the Omni Royal Orleans in the French Quarter. And records show that many of the top brass stayed for eight days and nights, at a cost ranging from $160 to $270 per room per night. The total cost was $18,174, according to the hotel bills provided by the Sheriff’s Office. Records also show the sheriff paid for rooms for some top deputies during the first weekend of Carnival. The bills show $373 spent at the Sheraton on Canal for three nights and $661 for four nights at the Marriott that weekend. The Marriott bills also show payments of $50 a day for parking for two days.

$160-$270 is a top hotel in NOLA these days?
Damn that city has fallen further than I thought.

Considering the hours they work it makes sense to have rooms in the quarter. Also those rates aren’t crazy.
Now if it was just rank hanging out it’s a totally different story.

Why does this not surprise me

Ummm, this seems extremely reasonable considering the hours they were working and how they could quickly get on and off shift without having to be shuttled
news media headlines are the worst

Could be especially advantageous if they are doing some investigations on massage parlors and strip clubs.

Makes good sense and reasonable money well spent.

Sounds like a solid job. 140 for $18k working crazy hours..Cheap.

The Sheraton and the Omni Royal are not top hotels in a city with a Ritz Carlton and a Four Seasons.

Cheaper than one Latoya flight to France

Not a big deal if those guys and gals were working, not just going to parades and needing places to pass out drunk.

I’d actually argue NO law enforcement would be wise dispersing officers across many hotels downtown and in the Quarter. Negotiate with the hotels to keep average rates acceptable, but also know safety is spread across key areas.

That actually sounds like a potentially non-awful use of city money.

That seems super cheap for 140 deputies.

Doing better than the LSP that was running a Stabbin Cabin in the FQ on the taxpayer dime.

I came in expecting something that would make me mad.
This does not.

Somehow I doubt it.

With the hours worked some of this might have been union mandated. I know in my work that a room is an option for anyone who works more than 18hrs.
