It’s not that big of a deal.

On this I agree with you (especially now that I know now that you caught recreationally; though I’m not sure slow pitch softball counts). I have been really happy with what I’ve seen out of Neal defensively and no doubt he has more upside at the plate (though I still maintain Milazzo is far better at the plate than most of this board gives him credit for and may well be the best bunter on this team). I just am very surprised Milazzo has only gotten one start this year. I, like most people, thought with the depth we have at this position that wouldn’t be the case.

Why do people keep saying this without expecting to be checked on it? Milazzo is a very good catcher, but LOL at people out here acting like he's some pitcher whisperer.

Defensively, Milazzo is a better catcher than you give him credit for. I read/listen to the national coverage as well. His defensive abilities are considered better than most. Nevertheless, I haven’t seen anyone refer to him as a “whisperer”. I haven’t. The words “at any level” were emphasized to compare him in the same context as CJJ, collegiate experience.

Ben is particularly homer-ish for Milazzo considering he coached him in travel ball. Not to say that what Ben says can't be true, but he's a "homer" beyond just being the local broadcaster in that instance.

I did not know that about them. To be fair though, I don’t believe his comments of Milazzo’s throwing velocity and accuracy are homerish. Like some on here, I’ve been to many of the Fall and Spring scrimmages as well as the games. While I don’t necessarily have the “eye for baseball” like some here, I’m not speaking as one who’s only seen a few games on TV.

I certainly don’t desire to be argumentative. I just believe we’re going to need Milazzo’s defense more than most think and that, given our current offensive production, his offensive capability will not hurt us as much as in the past. Just my opinion.

I had a pro scout for the A's tell me last year at the Shriner's classic that Milazzo was as good defensively as any college catcher he had ever seen (not internationally he pointed out). I took that as pretty solid evidence he was damn good defensively.

The only person I've seen on this board speaking of his catching experience is you; but again I'm guessing that was in slow pitch softball.

Neal will still get 75% of the starts. It's great what Milazzo has shown, it will serve us greatly when he's in the lineup. But, Neal is still the main guy unless he really struggles against SEC pitching...and I think it will be the opposite, he will hit very well against good arms.

It's because he's a narcissist, who has to let you know he's smarter than you.

Your literal rebuttal during this discussion earlier was “guess you’ve never done it before”.

You guys are nutty sometimes.

Correct. And catching "recreationally", whether in hardball or in slow pitch softball (still my bet) doesn't negate that "rebuttal".

He's seeing the ball well and making great contact. Definitely taking advantage of every at bat. That coupled with his solid defense behind the plate, I'd give him the nod at the open of SEC play. He's earned it.

Neal has been struggling at the plate recently. Defensively, there were several passed balls that got away.

Neal has started every game except for one. That’s not going to suddenly change at the start of the grind of the schedule, even if Milazzo starts to get more PT. Neal will start Friday against A&M.

Milazzo has and will continue to get playing time. But no I am not going to say Milazzo should be starting over Neal. Neal won the job and has well. Jay is going to play both and play the right guys who give us the best chance to win.

I'd give Milazzo the full game on Tuesday for reps. I haven't seen the splits, but A&M has a ton of lefties and that may not be good for Neal.

Keeps Neal fresh and keeps Milazzo engaged.

It's a long season, especially for a catcher.

Maybe give Neal a break on Sunday, but I want to give Neal as many at bats as possible, without wearing him down. It's clear that he handles the bat well and has good power when he turns on one. He has had bad luck, so far - hitting the ball hard but they aren't dropping.

I expect Neal to be an All-American next year, or the year after...

The depth is a nice problem to have. We just need to make sure that we give all our key freshmen enough playing time that they don't bolt in the off season. Guys like Frey and Guidry would be good to keep around, and with White, Cruz, Morgan, Dugas, and Jobert gone, we will need them next year.

Brady Neal hasn’t made an error. The pitching staff has been phenomenal. And he has a .491 On Base Percentage. He is the future. Milazzo needs to keep getting his spot starts here and there and leave everything just like it is

A sacrifice does NOT count as a time at bat.
