Not only the most Cajun names (in Avoyelles Parish) but also the geography of where they originated in France. You're all welcome, I bet many of you can find yours. Mine is in the North West corner in Normandie.
Not every one of those names settled in Nova Scotia then came to LA
Avoyelles was mostly settled by people who came straight from France

Mayeaux?
I married one, but not sure where they come from before the La. Central Delta. Damn spirited for sure.

My Paternal side came from Cape Sable Nova Scotia then exiled to France then came to LA. Mothers side was the same but don’t remember what part. Fathers side traveled on the L’Amitie to get here. Can’t list my surname as it would out me. it’s not common at all.

You sure they weren’t exiled from France to Nova Scotia, and then to Louisiana?

Probably I know they left nova scotia after fighting/evading the British. I could only go back to 1685 in my searches and they were already in nova scotia at that time. They ended up in Havre France for a very short period after leaving Nova Scotia

In one of my classes at LSUE with about 60 people in it, there were 9 Fontenot’s lol.
None were closely related but all knew each other.
Everybody in St. Landry, Acadia, and Evangeline Parish has some Fontenot in them.

When the British expelled the Acadians of lot of them were sent back to France. These Acadians were then brought by boat to New Orleans. My ancestor was on Le Bon Papa. You can see the passenger lists online.
