Examples of services I saw being tipped:

Haircuts
Dining
Massages
Nails

Services that I haven’t seen tipped:

Plumber
Electrician
Cable installer
Carpenter

I’m starting to think women invented tipping

Surprising but not so surprising is that on home improvement subreddits people talk about tipping the construction workers they hire to complete a job that they make profit on lol

Well no shite.

Want to annoy the wife...tip 10% unless waitress has a huge rack...then go 25%. Works every time!

I tip the hotel cleaning ladies. Tipped the guy that installed my gutters last week. Tip my Amazon delivery person.

If people do a good job, they should get a little extra. They’ll go above and beyond next time as well.

I got the vibe that the Safelite guy who fixed my window expected a tip

Some people will hate me for this, but fishing and hunting charters.

I guess if you are going to some big ranch and its just the help showing you around. But im talking smaller setups where you literally just paid the dude maybe thousands to go on a fishing charter. Why the frick does he need a tip after that?

Honestly I do it arbitrarily based on feel. I know it's supposed to do with whether they own the company/work for themselves or not, but I don't really follow that rule entirely.

The guys who installed my kids playset a week ago I tipped. They don't own the company.

The dude who brought the firetruck (that he owns) to my kid's party, I tipped.

The guys who worked on my HVAC yesterday I did not. They don't own the company.

The guys who detailed my wife's car I tipped, they do own the company.

Standard maintenance dudes working on a dishwasher or whatever, I don't tip them.

100% agree that a service should never be tipped when already paying for said service. It’s bullshite.

If we're all being honest here we really shouldn't tip on a service being performed by someone that controls the price of said service. Waiters do not control the price so I think they should be the exception.

If you quote me $50 to cut my hair, that should be the price. If you quote me $30 to mow my front yard, that should be the price.

Tipping culture has gotten so out of control. It won't change, but it's certainly gotten to a nonsensical level these days.

I tip my haircut lady well…

Next time I go back, I definitely don’t want her pissed at me and feeling shortchanged (even if irrationally). That’s definitely money well spent
