As a song, I say Fade to Black. To me it’s the perfect song with some of everything.
But as an album, Master of Puppets.

St. Anger played in reverse.
One for the unique structure. I've also always loved Master of Puppets, for whom the bell tolls too.

The Four Horsemen
Fade to Black
Creeping Death
Battery
MoP
Orion
One
To Live Is to Die
The Unforgiven
My Friend of Misery
The God That Failed
Bleeding Me
Ronnie
The Unforgiven II
Whiskey in the Jar
Some Kind of Monster
Almost Like Your Life
Broken Beaten and Scarred
The Unforgiven III

It's hard to pick a best overall album. I think basically tied between MoP, Justice and Load.

The development, transitions and shredding in this song is a fricking clinic. GOAT Metallica song for me

Problem with a band so huge that their biggest hits have been like beyond overplayed, I think I've heard Enter Sandman more than any other song in my life.. you can't avoid it.
Fade to Black is a solid choice.
More as a song of the 90s and not what I'd called a Metallica song that I really liked Hero of the Day.. Load/ReLoad at parts seemed like their attempt to be a grunge/ alt-rock band and I thought that one worked best
Was always hoping they would've done a studio version of Four Leaf Clover. the S & M version and when they occasionally play it liv is amazing

This and King Nothing are my favorite post Black Album songs.
Master of Puppets, Fade to Black, One, Unforgiven, Sanitarium, Seek and Destroy, The Call of Ktulu, Orion, Damage Inc., and To Live is to Die are probably my favorites.
