Have used Japanese whetstone for years, I was pretty damn good but took a long break and seem to have lost my edge and don't have the patience
I did. Everything on Amazon has people who love and hate all of them lol. What sayeth the OB.

I think I'm going to get some diamond stones too, lost my favorite whetstone moving and the quality of my last Japanese stone seems to have slipped.

I have the spyderco and it seems to work well.

I bought the Ken Onion WorkSharp at the recommendation of the board...also picked up some ultra fine belts as well as the leather stropping belt for it.

Unfortunately I haven't used it yet to give you a recommendation

Another vote for spyderco, you can buy diamond sticks for it i you have super steels.
Worksharp is good but you have to be very careful cus it hogs steel and can ruin profiles and tips.

If you want the best, get a KME. The other ones are quicker and easier and cheaper, but they aren’t the best. I bought the KME kit that was about $320 I think and I love it. Worth every penny to me to always have sharp knives. I modified it a few months back when I started shooting single bevel broadheads so I can sharpen them with it too. I know it’s more than most people would ever spend on a knife sharpener but I ruined a benchmade with a worksharp so I figured I may as well get the sharpener instead of replacing knives.

Hearing a few stories like this is why I haven't used my work sharp

This is all I’ve used for about the last 20 years. I’ve probably got a half dozen of the handhelds scattered around the house and shop.

this one is not the fanciest or most expensive but gets the job done very well...

Just don't pull it all the way through. Thankfully I did that to a 20 dollar ganzo instead of a benchmade. It rounds the tip off if you do.

I've read the work sharp can ruin the heat treat along the edge if you're not careful. Not sure how true that is.

Best i am not sure. But easiest is worksharp. As others have said it can go thru a blade if you're too aggressive. Save a worn fine belt and add bore paste for a razor finish.
My wife complained that the worksharp was wearing out her paring knives but she buys $5 ones at the grocery store :)

It is true. I bought mine to finish up some blades on some knives I made. If you go too fast with the heavy grits you can heat the blade enough to ruin the best treat, it’s easier to do on thinner blades or the tip.
I would dip the blade in water after two or three passes when I was removing a lot of steel.

The Vsharp is great, but I'm biased because I'm friends with the US distributors of it. They are great people from Louisiana. It's very easy to use and the new one has 4 angle settings.

We use Furi Fingers. We use the coarse, medium, and fine fingers. It's quick and gives a sharp edge.
