Or maybe Shores deals against Texas and then you have a guy brimming with confidence early on.

Your point is taken though. Makes sense.

He was the only pitcher that would come in and I didn’t have to worry about him throwing strikes.

The rest of the staff was….oof

This is what worries me, hopefully the bullpen is better.

Our bullpen was good last year. It was starting pitching that hurt us

The issue was we had to put Ch so many guys because our starters would only go 4-5 regularly

So if 1 guy has a bad game out of the 5 you pitch that day you can have issues. While having a decent ERA overall

I don’t think anyone believes he would start someone because he’s got a great relationship with him .
You do know that he had the lowest era this spring and I believe it was the lowest with the fall and spring combined.

This tells me that he is wanting Hurd to face the better team next week

Maybe Hurd is our 4th best starter?
His numbers this spring are pretty average…

Pretty sure they arent setting Hurd up to start against Texas because they think he's only our 4th best pitcher.

Jay specifically mentioned him moving to the weekend role will only help this team. This is a strategic move to get one of his most talented pitchers against our toughest OOC game.

Right, we just took our best bullpen guy and made him a weekend starter.

Im worried about the bullpen now that our best reliever is not available.

And it definitely won’t hurt to get Shores and Cooper starts early in the season.

Cooper is a valuable reliever, though

There’s a good bit of melting from some about Cooper “being a starter”.

I’d bet he’s in the bullpen by the time we travel to College Station.

I don’t think Hurd is the same pitcher he was pre injury

The idea of getting Hurd in line to face Texas is actually a good one if true.

I believe it has more to do with RHP/LHP/RHP starters on the weekend than it does to line Hurd up with TX.

It doesn’t seem like you know the roster that well tbh

Not sure why the downvotes

This was Johnson’s comment on him

As for Thatcher Hurd, Johnson says that they still need to see some more improvement from him.

Doesn’t sound like a guy they’re planning to start vs Texas to me

Guidry's pitching stats his senior year are insane. Interested to see if they actually give him time on the mound.

quote:

Guidry, a LSU signee, helped the Bucs to a 36-4 season, going undefeated on the mound with an 8-0 record with a 0.16 ERA. He allowed just 22 hits and 11 walks in 45 innings pitched while striking out 83. At the plate, Guidry had a .422 batting average with five home runs and 25 RBIs. He was also a perfect 25-for-25 on steal attempts.

Anyone know what kind of speed and pitches he throws?

Hurd is going to be a starter. We need Cooper fresh for important relief spots.

This sounds like we are rewarding his loyalty but also, Cooper was lights-out in Spring.
