Cooper has been getting starter workload, right on that fringe. 3ip here and there, and went 4ip in his last outing. Seems like he has been training his workload just in case

So that leaves

Floyd
Dutton
Collins
Money
Little
Edwards
Coleman (once he's ready)

as the primary relievers?

What the shite is this. We have a potential #1 overall pick for 2024 and they’re starting some fat boy over him.

Shores must be legit if he's starting as a freshman.

Fat boy was arguably the most consistent pitcher we had last year

No chance there’s something wrong with Hurd?

I supposed technically there could be, but I think this is an instance of Jay Johnson doing what it takes to put us in position to win every game. No matter how the rotation was scheduled to fall. He's mentioned it often that he wants to win every game. Midweek or not. He wants to put his team in a position to win every single one. Moving Hurd this one time to Tuesday to face our strongest midweek competition of the season would fall in line with that mindset.

I've seen several teams use one of there weekend starters throwing mid week to start the season because those are the better teams.

He was good in spots. I'm shocked that he is a weekend starter though.

I would imagine Taylor getting injured threw a wrench in things

What's got everybody so excited about Hurd vs Texas? Am I missing something?

I figured LSU would start Hurd this weekend and Shores vs Texas given he's a Texas kid.

It's the not wanting to blow a freshman's confidence on the road in his first or second start.

Consistent hitting the zone, which kept his ERA down but also opposing batters hit .301 on him.

And Im not trying to be in line with the other guy but you do make Cooper sound a little better than he was last year. I think he's just having a really good spring so they are giving him a shot because why not, we play mostly a ton of cupcakes anyways until conference play.

He had one bad outing at the beginning of the year and tired out a little bit at the end. Otherwise he was arguably the most consistently good pitcher on the roster last year and definitely the most consistent returner.

He was the only pitcher that would come in and I didn’t have to worry about him throwing strikes.

The rest of the staff was….oof

Surprised by Cooper, not really by Shores. Cooper has had a winter tho.

Don’t we still have Fontenasty?

Neither Fontenot is still on the roster. Devin exhausted his eligibility and Grant transferred to McLennan CC in Waco.

Johnson says Thatcher Hurd is on the cusp of weekend rotation, and said if LSU is going to reach its potential, Hurd will factor into weekend.

Assures he will start significant games this year but did some midweek work to get better long term that precludes starting this weekend

Feels like a nice way of saying “hes a weekend guy we want to pitch against Texas” without saying we’re pitching a weekend guy against Texas.
