They’ve basically replaced the fitness standards with the Pacer test which is a shuttle run against the clock. My kids got upset in elementary school when the teacher would make them stop at 50 and not see how many they could actually get.
My neighbor is a P.E. Teacher (in her 60s no pics) and she says that they had to stop doing pull ups because a couple of kids nationwide injured themselves straining to do the pull up.

funny you should mention that, there was kind of a macho thing back then about taking off your shirt while playing pick up sports, we even did it at baseball practice in high school, not really sure what was behind that

I get your point, but I'm not buying all of those guys are high schoolers. I saw a few that looked like they in their early twenties. And your average high school PE class was not doing peg boards.

from what i have read, boys were not allowed to wear a shirt, shorts only. essentially fatshaming
that part would never work today, but the rest of the program could if parents wouldnt threaten to sue.

I went to private school so it’s probably different than most public schools but out of my class of 45 I think we had 6-7 that were fat. The rest were either fit or at least skinny

I’d also argue in the 60s was peak Vietnam war so I bet the govt was pressuring public schools to make sure young men were fit for the draft
