This is Brian Kelly's offense and it won't change for better or worse.

I know the rant had lots of arguments over if Les Miles was running the offense back in the day so let's make this clear about Brian Kelly.

Pete Sampson on why Tommy Rees went to Alabama

quote:

“And I think that once the sort of, finances got taken off the board, then it was a question of ‘Well I can go with Brian Kelly and basically be the same coach I’ve been for the last five years at Notre Dame. Just with different colors. Or I can stay at Notre Dame, even though it’s the same place, and do a different job,’” Sampson said on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Tuesday. “Because, suddenly, he had autonomy under a defensive head coach with Marcus Freeman. And I think that Rees really got to flex a little bit last season in some spots.”

If he thinks Saban isn’t going to micro manage him he’s a fool

So, 9-4 with a very experienced team and ND’s schedule? Yeah, I’m fine with Tommy not coming here.

Based on Notre Dames results last season, perhaps Rees shouldve run Brian Kellys offense.

Looked to me like that offense needed some guidance but what do I know

Well Brian Kelly’s offense is an improvement for LSU and got us to Atlanta in year one so I’m good with it.

Your post makes it seem like this is a quote from Rees, but really it’s a quote from a notre dame beat writer (pete Sampson).

Apparently, Tommy Rees isn't capable of going through The Process. See ya in November, dude

Notre dame was 44th in yards per play last year and 43rd 2 years ago. Lsu was 32nd last year and in the 80s the year before…….so….

What was said is not even close to what your title implies. It says Tommy Rees could take a different role by staying but would have the same role if he left.

You could just say ‘at all cost, I have it out for CBK and will go to my grave trying to link negativity and ineptness to him’.

We would all get that. The secretive and innuendo stuff just flies right by.

He got better as the year went on, but he literally lost them one of their most embarrassing games in the last several decades. He’s 30, and maybe he will be a great coach but Bama is taking a pretty big chance here. Kevin Steele is a shite coordinator, if Rees isn’t very good Saban won’t last much longer

Tommy Rees is going to get eaten alive next season. Most weeks be going against elite coaches who have elite personnel to defend with, meanwhile he’ll be taking over an Alabama offense that has something like the 115th least amount of production returning in all of FBS. He’ll have an unproven quarterback with unproven skill players. He’ll also be coaching where the fan base expects 15-0 and nothing less.

Good luck.

Kevin Steele wasn’t good at LSU and one could easily argue his personnel especially at linebacker was sub par but Kevin Steele as a whole is a good defensive coordinator. His defenses at Auburn were elite.

This notion that Bama’s defensive coordinator will have full autonomy is not correct. Saban has his fingerprints all over that defense no matter who’s calling plays on gameday. Their fans just choose to place blame on the coordinator because Saban is untouchable. They’ll be ready to run Steele and Rees out of town at the first sign of trouble.

i prefer offenses centered around running quarterbacks just like other lsu teams of the past

the more sacks lsu's qb takes the better

and thankfully lsu has an athletic director that is not insistent on hiring a coach at lsu who believes it is necessary to have a proficient pass offense

Well, I’m pretty sure most LSU fans are very happy with what this coaching staff was able to assemble with a makeshift roster to play with and still win the SEC West, beat Alabama at home, and win 10- games including a bowl win blowout. I myself am all in with Brian Kelly moving forward.

With better overall play, great recruiting, and overall better depth, this team will be much better offensively and Mike Denbrock and Brian Kelly will be able to do more with the playbook with Jayden Daniel’s and Garrett Nussmeir. Hopefully special teams will be the most improved overall going in the 2023 season as well.

I love it when some guy tells me what another guy is thinking. Sampson has no idea why Rees did what he did. None.
And then OP tries to make it about CBK? Idiocy.

Is this really true? I used to say the same things but when I look back at the statistics and rankings this is what I see. Total Defense and Scoring Defense. only year better was 2012. Was 2015 just a bad year for defenses or did everyone just miss the boat on the assessment of Steele?

ETA: The above chart is wrong, my apologies. Thanks to RB10 for pointing out my mistake.

Here is the corrected chart. Heads up for stat enthusiasts, this is the place to go for previous years stats post-1999. https://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/rankings?doWhat=archive&sportCode=MFB

Here is an updated chart.

Kevin Steele is a good defensive coordinator, Saban a great defensive mind. This is definitely an upgrade for them
