trying to get away from the infamous yellow stink cheese.
Has anyone had any success with the cotton seed meal cakes or other meal/grains?

I still remember the smell of that cheese from my childhood.
Dad used those for slat traps he ran on the Ouachita River.

ETA: That's a joke... But when I was a kid beyond the statute of limitations, my deceased grandfather used to work their arse over.

I remember putting that shite in 25# bags to sell when I worked at Northwood Bait & Tackle. We'd get old outdated cheese and put in 55 gallon drums all summer then scoop out and put in plastic bags to sell.
When you first open that barrel there's a thick layer of oil, maggots, and all kinds of shite in there. IDK if the word putrid even begins to describe it.

A friend of mine used to run baskets with cotton seed cakes on the Conecuh. He had good luck with it.

Cheese catches better everywhere I fish nets.

Most guys are using Powerbait blocks for nets. It is compressed soybean and cheese. It has absolutely no rank smell at all.It is 4x4x 12 inches long and you can get it in several places around Louisiana. It last probably a week in your nets if you don’t have a ton of current. Most net supply places carry it by the case.

Northwood Bait and Tackle. You grew up in my neck of the woods. Nothing like the stink of cheese bait and maggots. I still remember best friends mom bitching at us when we used maggots to catch some bream to bait up limb lines and trot lines in Marshal brake.

You ever go by there or you just live in the area? That’s where we keep our club dogs.

Works better for finfish than the cheese. Cheese will outperform for catfish.

Lived in the area for 26 years. Live a little east of there in Lincoln Parish now. Parents still live around there so I drive by often.
