My son is a US Marine.

Does your child serving affect your view of a possible war with China? It does mine.

We aren't going to get into an active war with China. We need each other too much.

So if your son wasn’t a marine, you’d be cool with a war with China?

I am a third generation combat veteran, my son is serving now as the fourth generation. All wars are stupid because they are caused by and managed by politicians, which are the scum of the earth. I fully expect him to see some combat action, as it is an opportunity for politicians to enrich themselves, which they rarely pass up.

You join the military knowing full-well what you're getting in to. I was in boot camp a month after graduating high school, in Afghanistan a little over a year later.

If we get into a war with China or Russia, it won’t be your typical world war. It’ll be about who has the best and fastest nuclear missiles. Soldiers won’t make a difference in that kind of war. You’ll be in just as much of a risk of dying as your son would because of the type of warfare that would be fought.

Both of my daughters are married to service members, 1 to a Capt in the Army @ Benning, and 1 to a Gunny in the USMC @ Pendelton.

Both of them are combat veterans who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

It absolutely impacts my views on any possible wars.

US Army Spec Ops air crew dad here.

He’s deploying all the time anyway, war with Chyna or not my son was in harms way more than 1/2 the year last year.

By harms way I mean places where, while on missions, people were actively shooting at his aircraft and he was firing back.

People think there is t a lot going on right now, but between Africa and the Middle East we have a lot of hot spots.

My son has been on the Seal teams for 18 years. He is planning his retirement in the next couple years. Hopefully he will get out before anything goes down. They offered him a Warrant officer school slot. Not sure if he will take it because he would have to extend his enlistment.

A country bought and paid for by China isn’t going to war with China

I have 2 sons and a DIL that are pilots in the AF. One son and the DIL fly C-130s and the other son the E-3 Sentry AWACS. That old E-3 jet is a worn out POS (70% of the time they are broke). Congress waited too long to approve the new Boeing 737 AEW&C replacement (it will take 10 years to replace the old E-3s). The E-3 and C-130s are prime targets in hot wars, not good for them.

I'm retired Army (22years). Both my sons are in an infantry unit and deployed to Iraq and Syria in 2020-2021. Momma was a wreck. Do I worry? Of course I do, but I'll tell anybody, "somebody has to do it". That hipster, snowflake candy arse working as a barista at Starbucks isn't going to keep the wolf from the door.
