Any recommendations on stocks, actions, bolts, glass bedding, etc?

7mm STW or 7mm RUM

How old is it? What are the 1st digits of the serial number?
I have 3 newer ones. Two I have sent off to get blue printed and timed.
The 3rd is a 7mm mag. Haven't decided what I want to do with it yet.
If you are considering changing your caliber you are limited to your bolt face which is a .540 and a long action or shorter.

How much are you wanting or willing to spend?
Does the gun have sentimental value?
I went through the same internal questions with a rem 700bdl in 7mm mag and may end up rebarrling it one day with a proof remage.
But as of now I’m saving my funds I was going to spend a will assemble a barreled action with a prefit carbon fiber barrel with a carbon fiber stock.
The gunsmithing cost and the inability to ever swap or change a barrel unless I used a remage with a nut is what kept me from throwing more money at a gun I was not in love with.

Lots of options, just depends on what you truly want and your checkbook. As pointed out, kinda limited on chamberings with a long action, magnum action. If wanting to go full custom, we can help you with your dream rifle.

I redid the exact same rifle in the exact same caliber this past Summer. Switched out the trigger first to something a little more responsive. Action and bolt was gtg so left that alone. Put a B&C composite stock on it. Topped it off with some upper tier Swarvo glass. Even though my 6.5 Grendel AR is my go to rifle for deer, if I think I might be shooting something 200+ yards out, then it is sitting at home and the bolt gun goes.

you can build a custom rifle* like this, nothing fancy for around $1200 using your action
* all taking into consideration a new barrel, stock, truing your action
or something like this for approx. $1800 with your donor action
or this for approx. $2500

It's around 12 years old. I would like to spend around 1200. Would like to keep the same barrel but do whatever upgrades give me the most "bang" for my buck

If keeping same barrel, I'd look at doing an MDT stock ( oryx for budget/traditional or lss gen 2 for custom/configurable).
Throw in a timney trigger and athlon/atx scope and you'll have the best rifle at the camp.
Just did this same exact build myself with no prior gunsmithing knowledge.

What do you plan to do with the rifle? Carry it in the mountains? Bang steel at 1000 yards? Make it pretty?

Put a Timney trigger on my 700BDL a couple seasons ago. I love that thing.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is a new stock an "upgrade"? I have a 700 with a synthetic stock and I don't understand how a new stock would make it shoot a lot better. Is it just for looks?

I prefer wood. Mainly because I’m kind of a Fudd. (No I’m not anti AR’s or anything like that. I just personally don’t own one).
I know synthetic is practical, but most synthetic’s are not of good quality. They are flimsy, and to me just don’t have a good “feel” to them.
A quality synthetic will cost some $. If you’re happy with your stock, there’s no need to change it.
As for shooting better, rifles will group better, the better the action fits the stock. That’s usually not a big problem with any stocks these days. Wood has some potential to move or warp with the weather. I have heard some say the cheaper injection molded synthetics can too but idk if that has any truth to it.
Those good fiberglass laid stocks and some of the laminate woods have a reputation for staying straight.

Adjustability for one. Can adjust the cheek weld to make for a better/more comfortable shooter position. Also gives room for attaching a better bi/tripod. Not sure what OP wanting but my next build will be using XLR chassis. Don’t have to bed the action and extremely accurate and lightweight if wanting to use for hunting or if wanting to ring steel can put weights in it to adjust it to your preference.

I put a timney trigger and bell and Carlson medalist stock on my 700 and love it. It was accurate before but even better now (it had the rubber hogue stock on it before).
I’m not an expert on customizing 700s, but those two additions turned it into a rifle that I grab 90% of the time for hunting.

Factory stocks are generally flexible. If you put some weight on it, it'll flex and put pressure on the barrel which could cause some flyers and just bad accuracy because the pressure won't always be the same amount nor the same direction.

My $0.02, with a 12 yo barrel, is to change the barrel to a quality Hart, McGowan, etc.(Remington used some pretty crappy steel 10-12 years ago), true the action, good trigger replacement and glass bed. You will get more bang for your buck if accuracy’s what you are after.
Next step would be quality glass.
