Long term holder, when should I sell?

I’m a basic investor that is now taking a more serious look at making some money in the market
I looked over my portfolio and I have 6 or 7 stocks I’ve held on to for years that I’ve lost money on from when I bought it
Should I just dump those or transfer to buy another stock or wait for them to go up?

Not financial advice, but if this is the level of attention you intend to pay to them going forward, then you'll be better off to sell all your individual stocks and just have those $ in index funds instead.

Starting over, would you buy again today or invest in something else?
That should guide your decision. Dont be fooled by sunk cost fallacy.

Sell and get into low cost index funds.

You should’ve sold in November 2021

The companies/symbols would be helpful

The fact OP is asking for advice on individual stocks without even mentioning the tickers makes this the obvious answer if they want to remain in equities.

Did you ever get that Boeing stock you wanted so bad at $125 several years ago?

Did you buy these stocks based on their fundamentals and has something changed with regard to that? If you bought for some other reason, has that reason disappeared? If the answer to either question is “yes”, then I suppose you should consider exiting those long positions.
But really, you’re asking a sort of open ended, general question. We’d just be guessing at an answer without specifics.

Selling losers works better than selling winners which sounds paradoxical

If you had the money in those stocks in cash right now, would you use that cash to buy those stocks today?
The answer will help you decide whether to sell or hold.

Sell if you can use the capital losses to offset capital gains.
