re: Trump sues Bob Woodward for nearly $50M over release of interview recordings

quote:Yup. Trump's assertion would only make sense if they were working together to create a work of fiction, rather than an interview. In that case, they could both be creators. I'm not sure they want to go down that road
On its face, this just does not make much logical sense, because the result would be that every journalistic interview would be owned jointly, meaning that the reporter could never publish anything to which the interviewee does not provide advance consent of the content. It would mean the end of investigative journalism.

Does that make sense to you?
Yes. I was thinking more along the lines if there was a contractual agreement in place. Though I haven’t seen the pleadings, so I don’t know if that’s the case.

If spoken words were copyrighted, Trump could sue any reporter who reports, without his explicit approval, what he says. You are overthinking this.

it seems to me that he could attach whatever conditions he likes to the license for use of those words, including (theoretically) pre-approval AND/OR no release of the tapes themselves. Does that make sense to you?
Trump seems to be asserting (i) that he owned the copyright on his part of the recording and (ii) that he gave Woodward only a (limited) verbal license for the use of those words.
It will be interesting to see it play out. As more facts are learned in the coming months, I am sure we will be doing more analysis.

It's probably mostly "performative litigation" in the sense that it's supposed to make a political point to relevant publics that he's fighting, that he has the right enemies, etc., and winning would of course be welcome, but not really the main point.

By making Woodward a target, Trump can finally expose the true history of Bob Woodward and Bob's relationship with the intelligence agencies.

I can’t imagine being so eaten up with TDS to be will to go to such an extent to deflect.
HHTM would be proud of you though.

I would agree with your take.
I also agree with his actions.

He said it was necessary to maintain calm in the early stages of the pandemic to preserve PPE, meat, paper, etc... That was the big media bomb from Woodward's book. It had legs too, until Fauci got busted saying the exact same thing. Then the media immediately stopped talking about it.
