Former President Donald Trump is suing journalist Bob Woodward and his publisher for nearly $50 million over the inclusion of audio recordings of an interview the ex commander-in-chief did with the veteran reporter in an audiobook released last year.

Trump, 76, alleges in the lawsuit filed on Monday that he never agreed for 19 taped interviews conducted for Woodward’s 2020 book “Rage” to be included in the audiobook “The Trump Tapes,” published by Simon & Schuster Inc. last year.

“This case centers on Mr. Woodward’s systematic usurpation, manipulation, and exploitation of audio of President Trump gathered in connection with a series of interviews conducted by Mr. Woodward,” Trump’s lawyers argue in the 31-page filing.

The lawsuit claims that Woodward’s “Rage” book flopped compared to his previous Trump book, “Fear,” released in 2018, and in an effort “to exploit, usurp, and capitalize” off of the taped Trump interviews, Woodward decided after the release of “Rage” to package them into a new audiobook.

I mean, I love him too but I'll stick with using the name, "President Trump."

He was a Cia operative that broke the Watergate story for the WaPo as an unknown 25 year old journalist.

Hmm. Connect those dots.

Unless Bob Woodward has something in writing, not only should Trump be suing him, he should be prosecuted for crimes.

I mean, the FBfrickINI raided James O'Keefe because he allegedly had Ashley Biden's diary, which had been legally aquired.

So, I mean, releasing tapes of a President without their consent should be a felony or something, right? Since we're just making up the new rules for the DOJ as we go.

Winning or losing this case will likely be determined from the terms and conditions of the contract signed between Woodward and Trump.

this is an attempt to limit the use of where trump admits he knows the then-current covid was deadly but he lied about it.

in the interview he says he lied to prevent PANIC!

how thoughtful and all this time i thought he lied to try to salvage the stock market which he perceived as a big winner for him in the coming election.

Trump knew he was being taped. He's arguing that didn't give Woodward the right to release/sell the tapes.

Exactly. Trump was not compelled to do these interviews and knew he was being taped.

How in the hell he thought that was a good idea, I have no clue. Another one of Trump's self-inflicted, head scratching decisions.

I edited to clarify. And, as far as I understand, releasing the tapes would still be some kind of contractual violation if not specified in writing, although I'll leave that to our scholarly attorneys like Hank to explain.

I'll never understand Trumps fetish for these journalists. He rails against them but them falls over himself to sit down with hacks like Woodward and Maggie Haberman.

If it were a Democrat President he would be doing all kinds of gymnastics explaining the legality of this or that.
