I guess if you are Trump, its smart to use your legal resources to go after unscrupulous media types. What other method does a conservative have to keep a hostile and dishonest media somewhat at bay? Its not like leadership at the NYT, WaPo, or any other legacy rag or publishing house will hold their people accountable for printing lies or violating sources and standards..... as long as its done to hurt their political enemies.

It is well known that Bob Woodward is a Deep State mouthpiece.

Why did Trump trust Woodward? Contractual agreement or not, Trump puts his trust in some stupid people and stupid ahit.
He didn't have to "trust" anyone. If there were anything in those tapes that was unseemly, we'd know it already. He played the game, up to a certain extent, with the media - likely knowing he might get burned. You can't hide from them for an entire administration.
The reason he's suing Woodward is to make media think twice about bending the rules to attack and slander people in the future. Especially when those rules are broken in an attempt to profit off of Trump.

Oh come on. Do you think Biden would do taped interviews with Bill O'Reilly? Even if he said he wasn't going to release them?
Stupid fricking decision any way you look at it.

taping a President without their consent should be a felony or something, right?
would it then be a felony if the president lied about covid?
how about if the president is lying about the recording?
no one believes trump.
this never goes to court.
its entirely so you dont post the recording in your DeSantis primary run.

Bill O'Rielly is considered fringe media, so no.
Besides, the left doesn't have to appeal to right wing media - ever. The right doesnt own the media.
Pull your panties out of your crack. The interview isnt the issue - nothing came of it but the "keep the calm during covid" hissy the media threw until Fauci was exposed saying the exact same thing. The issue is a violation of an agreement, that any smart legal team is going to pounce on. It lets the rest of the world know that these tactics wont go unanswered.

Trump always says he's being misquoted or misrepresented. He should welcome the use of actual tapes because they are his actual words, spoken in context. It isn't "slander" to release a recording of Trump's own words as he spoke them.
And he knew he was being taped.

People use NDAs every single day. The fact that Trump sat down with a known snake and allowed himself to be taped is a perfect example of narcissistic behavior and his misguided trust he places in bad actors.

I'm shocked you aren't a big supporter of his then. That is all the politicians you support do is lie.

That's not really how it works. If a reporter tapes an interview, and captures both on the record and off the record banter - with an agreement in place on how those recordings can and will be used - the onus is on BW to honor the agreement or get sued. He's literally trying to profit off of the release of tapes that may not be his IP.

ugh. You think writers do 40+ hours of interviews with a president and then write the book from memory? Recordings are standard, and they can protect the interviewee from misquotes and shenanigans, which is exactly why you do an agreement and exactly why this is going to court.
You don't have to like Trump, but you are barking at the moon here.

I get your argument as it's the only one you have made. Yes, he knowingly sat with Bob and knew he was being taped. Nothing really came from that. His lawsuit is Bob using those tapes in a way that may have broken their agreement for the interview.
Dumb to do the interview? Yes
Did Bob break a written agreement? We shall see.
Settle down guy

Is this really just Trump saying hey a-hole, I agreed to the interview but I didn’t agree to you selling audiotapes. You need to pay me.

I take no issue with Trump going hard after someone like Woodward
But why Trump opens up to these people - who knows (ego)
But I also question whether a lawsuit that provides a secondary storyline to the book (keeps it in the news) is beneficial to him. Probably depends on the strength of the case.

So, I mean, releasing tapes of a President without their consent should be a felony or something, right? Since we're just making up the new rules for the DOJ as we go.
was it recorded in a one party consent state or two? I feel like that would matter right?

How in the hell he thought that was a good idea, I have no clue. Another one of Trump's self-inflicted, head scratching decisions.
This - I love the man's accomplishments dearly, but damn, his private life decisions baffle me.
And there is no way I'd ever give some a-hole like Woodward anything but a smirk and a slap in the face.
He cannot be trusted with anything.
It would be different if he was honest about his intentions - but he is merely a talented political hit-man.
