Is a Mercedes that much more expensive to maintain than the average car?

Looking at a used C class. It's clean and priced well (considering the market) but I'm worried I'll have buyers remorse the first time I have to get it serviced. It's purty. My eyes say yes, my pocketbook says no. The purchase price isn't the issue, it's the cost of maintaining it. Will I regret the maintenance over say a Toyota?

Pocketbook says no = be an adult and pass

BMWs are expensive to maintain. Fabulous vehicles.
I’d bet Mercedes isn’t much better.

If you’re concerned about it before buying, then yes.

C class
No, because that’s not really a Mercedes.

Yes.
If you want more information, call some independent shops and get prices for routine maintenance. Look on-line in Forums to see what typically goes wrong with them. Ask questions, but the answer is "yes," especially compared to a Toyota.

Nicer things cost more. Go for it. Cut spending elsewhere

This one is obvious.
You know what you should do.

I called my mechanic before making a jump from Toyota to Lexus and he told me Lexus would cost just slightly more. Then he said- but it will be just like your Toyota - I will never see it. (I kept his family fed with a couple chevrolets though)
Based on what family members pay for Audi, BMW, and Mercedes I will stick with Toyota/Lexus.

They’re expensive to maintain, that is why their value doesn’t holdup

Had one years ago but got rid of it because of maintenance costs. $400 for front brakes . That was 20 years ago. But was fun to drive.

If you are capable of unscrewing a bolt, BMW and Mercedes are the easiest two vehicles to change oil in yourself. The cost of the oil and filter is identical to any other vehicle. If you break parts, they will be more expensive. My son has my wife’s old Mercedes E Class. 200k miles and has only had oil changes. It was her 3rd Mercedes, all of which were problem free. She currently drives a 5 series BMW, but will probably go back to Mercedes.

yes and no. Taking it to the dealer will be expensive. If it's already used then invest in the oil removal pump and service it yourself.

Once you run out of complimentary maintenance, get rid of it.

You tell me. I just spent $930 last week for a “service b” service. Basically an oil change and new air filter.

Well, I was quoted $125 to changed the windshield wipers yesterday so there you go

Why would you buy a used c class? It better be the 43 or 63 amg. If you cannot afford an e class, mercedes is not for you!
