I just showed my 5 year old son the 'I Have a Dream' speech.

He started asking questions about why he didn't have to go to school today so I decided to pull up MLK on YouTube and let him watch it.
He stayed interested in it for the duration, so my wife and I started probing him about it asking if he understood what MLK was talking about.
Naturally, he missed the point, but we used it to bring up equality without focusing on race. He then started asking questions about the MLK himself which again we tried to answer without focusing on race. At this point in his life, he doesn't see race and even though the modern age thinks that's wrong, we prefer he be raised that way. There are many reasons to judge a person. Race shouldn't inherently be one of them.
That speech truly is one of the most important ones given in American history and we would be a much better country/civilization if we focused on living a world described in it rather than the post-post-racial mess we are currently in.
Downvote away.

Can argue with that

A five year old can see that black people look different from white people.

Do you live in the south?

My youngest is 8. I taught him race relations watching Sanford and Son.

Why are you showing your son such a racist speech? We live in 2023 where present day civil rights leaders say “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever”

Well yeah
You should be judged by the content of your character
But thats not good enough in 2023 where victimhood is the new civil rights rallying cry

I mean, he's not blind, but he has never mentioned anything about people who look different. Race may as well be hair color at this point.

Unless it’s theft, murder, or the catch all, the white mans fault.

I think you're being a little disengenous. Noticing differences in people doesn't have to have a negative connotation.

My 4 year old asked if we were getting a king cake for MLK day

My son's best friend was kicked out of pre-school when she was 4 because she didn't want to share her book with some one because she had brown skin.
Zero tolerance and just kicked out. Would have been nice if they used it as a teaching experience. You know to teach kids not everyone is the same.

Most 5 year old have learned colors by that at age. Might be time to switch schools.
