Official Music Video "Don't You Want Me"

The song was released in November 1981, the fourth single off of their third album Dare. The album was already a hit in the UK, having three successful singles by the time "Don't You Want Me " was released.

I remember this song vividly when it came out. I was 13, in 7th grade, and had really not heard much like it before. It was certainly in the same vein as Gary Numan's "Cars." It had a great hook, the lyrics told a story, and the vocals, although not virtuosic, were spot on. It fit nicely into the post-punk/new wave era. I think it was one of the seminal songs of what is known as the "Second British Invasion," and the emergence of New Wave.

It remains a great song to this day, and stacks up to any song of the decade. It really opened my eyes to music outside of Van Halen, The Eagles, and AC/DC.

What do y'all think about this classic?

Yeah, that one was an eye-opener for sure. Kind of a segue (not a "Segway" OTLers) from Disco to hwat came next.

Great synths. Seem to recall really cool use of an arp. Still imminently danceable.

I used to screw an old girlfriend to it in 1982.

It's a brilliant synth pop masterpiece. I have a soft spot for some of that stuff from the '80s, and I really like some of the '80s retro stuff with this aesthetic that's come out recently.

I’m a die hard classic rock fan who loved New Wave music. Human League takes me back to junior high dances and parties. Nostalgia

New Wave is still a great sound to me. I really enjoy the occasional visit to First Wave on Sirius XM

Solid tune! I have always enjoyed listening to it. I’m a sucker for anything 80’s, so naturally it appeals to me lol.

Tainted Love by Soft Cell is from 1981 too. I love that era of music.

Lead singer Philip Oakey hated the final mix so much it was relegated to the last track on the album, and he fought the label's plan to release it as a single.

It was the biggest selling UK single of 1981, and it is the 23rd most successful single in UK chart history.

Human and Mirror Man are great songs too.

I've always loved New Wave music from the early/mid 80s. But almost all of it has aged really well.

An awesome time in music.
‘81-‘82 also saw New Order’s arrival on the scene with Ceremony, Temptation, Everything’s Gone Green… (post-Joy Division of course)

It's a good song, I like "Human" better though. Both take me back to memory lane.
