PS5 Vertical Design Flaw

I wasn't sure if this was already common knowledge or not, but I just had two articles pop up on my news feed saying that keeping the PS5 upright can lead to permanent damage:

Just figured I'd pass this along.

Can you put the PS5 horizontal? It looks like it's too warped to do so

You have to use the stand that comes with it. It doesn't secure via screw - only by clipping in. I'm personally not a fan of it being horizontal as the stand doesn't secure well enough.

Same here, stupid fricking design.

I have it horizontal without the stand in my TV stand. Stays pretty steady and haven't had any issues.

I’ve had mine vertical for 19 months now and it hasn’t been a problem. The article didn’t mention if this issue happens right after you buy it or farther down the line.

I swear I remember people saying the same things about the PS2 and PS3

Yeah I've had mine like this for over a year with zero issues

I would guess this might happen to people that keep it vertical AND without adequate available airflow.

My PS5 was getting extremely hot while standing upright. I purchased an external fan that attaches to the back of the PS5 and helps pull the hot air out. I also purchased a stand for the PS5 that blows cool air in through the bottom. Since I setup these addons its been much cooler and crashed less often.

The vast majority of users go with a vertical setup. Given that, it should be no surprise that repair shops are dealing with more problems from vertical setups.
I have no doubt some systems are overheating, but you'd have to run tests with vertical and horizontal setups in similar conditions before making these broad claims.

Don’t drop your ps5.

In Sony’s case, this issue is happening to people whose console is jostled or bumped hard enough to break the seal between the CPU heat sink and the top of the chip. The fact that this can happen at all merits attention, but the problem does not seem to be sweeping the PS5 community.

So if you drop it, it could break..who knew?!

A few weeks ago, reports began circulating that PS5 owners who had their console in a vertical position were at risk of damaging the device. The claim made by hardware repair shop owner 68Logic (via Wololo, which has since updated its article) described the liquid metal used to cool the APU as being the culprit, as the shop had encountered cases where the substance had spilled out of its container and had begun spreading around the PS5 motherboard.
In an update from Wololo on Twitter, the site added that while this problem can occur, there is "no evidence" that it'll happen to PS5 consoles that are fresh out of the box and haven't been opened. If your PS5 has been operating normally since you acquired it and hasn't had its shell cracked open for a fix, then there's no danger in leaving it in a vertical position if you have the space to do so. If you have had it fixed recently, you might want to exercise some caution in how you position it.

Well I was going to go home and redo my entire set up so I decided to just search more. And this is people who broke their damn system and brought it in to get fixed. Not that this just randomly leaked out.
