Dry January 2023?

I have been thinking about taking a month off of drinking to start the year off this year. I normally drink 2-3 beers 4-5 days a week, and it's getting in the way of the last 10 lbs of fat I need to lose. I actually love making and drinking beer though, so it's been the last thing for me to totally cut (even though it's the most obvious). Is anyone else planning on taking a month off and wants to commiserate? If so this can be the thread.
Starting the new year of 49 years old, 193 lbs, 5'11". I would like to lose to 185 lbs (which may be a bit optimistic) and sleep through the night better (which should be doable). I'll be running Strongville with the PPSA crew and also doing hard cardio plus abs in the rest days. I feel like not drinking at all for the month will help with my goals.

I’ve been doing it the past 3-4 years. I love it. Waking up 100% for a month is a great feeling.

Some interesting stats about dry January
Over 50% if people continue to either not drink or drink much less for years afterward

Is it really that difficult to go a month without drinking?? It would be harder for me to lay off the coffee.

I’ll be joining you but I’m doing Jan 3-Feb 2 thanks to the bowl game Monday. 5’11 218# right now. Trying to get down to 200# by the Masters and this will be a great way to jump start that process

I do it every year. It’s the easiest way for me to drop the 5-8 lbs I gain every holiday season.

If you’re doing cardio, weightlifting and cutting out drinking, you will have a huge head start and won’t have to tweak your diet much to hit your goals, but you will have to tweak your diet.
If you’re not in a caloric deficit you will not lose fat.

Quit drinking all together. It's a life changer. Going on 2 years now.

This doesn’t have to be a complete sobriety thing
I think it’s okay to not go completely dry but make the effort to limit alcohol intake and it you go the whole month dry then great but there’s no reason to beat yourself up if you have alcohol at times
I think it’s about the effort and intent

Doing it as well, except I didn't start until yesterday.
Been drinking entirely too much, as I really enjoy my double IPAs and bourbon. I've gained a good bit of weight and I sleep like crap. Need a reset from the booze and its effects.
I know I'm not going to go completely sober, but the plan is to be much more intentional when I do reintroduce the beer and bourbon, whenever that may be.

I heard of this for the first time this week. I had never heard of’Dry January’. When it was explained to me my comment was that it was the stupidest concept I ever heard of.

So far I've had zero alcohol in Jan. Was sick the first week so it was easy. Jan is easy for me not to drink. October didn't work the way I planned. Will likely go sober for Jan and into Feb at least zero beer or wine or mixed drinks and if I do have a drink it will be vodka and seltzer or pour of straight bourbon.

I’m going strong with Dry January so far. I also gave up energy drinks too. I just started a primobolan cycle too, so no alcohol and carbonation helps a ton. I won’t lose weight, I’ll gain muscle, but I’ll be shredded just in time for vacation next month.
