It's a toss-up between U2 and Bruce Springsteen.

They haven't put out a decent record in around 30 years, but Joshua Tree will always rank near the top of albums for me. They are obnoxious, leftist twits who got way too full of themselves, but at one time they were a damned good band. Compared to modern bands, they're GOAT tier.

The guitar work is nuanced and beautiful. Great rhythm section. Soaring vocals. They haven’t been hungry and creative in long time but they had about 15-20 years of being elite.

Respectfully disagree

Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby were the peak. Glad I was in middle school / high school at the time - those 3 albums made me become obsessed with music. Joshua Tree Tour at assembly center was my first concert, so U2 will always have a special place in my heart.

Rolling Stone continuing to list their albums in best of the year lists was hilarious. From brilliant to smug worthless elitist in a short time.

This. Say what you want about the band overall, but Edge was a somewhat of a pioneer in the use of delay when it comes to guitar.

I almost forget bout that BS and then when I least expect it a random U2* song starts playing in my truck when the Apple Music app is not even active. The only way I can get it to stop is to turn on Spotify to override it

* shitty song to boot

I can agree with this. U2 is terrible and Bono is overrated as frick.

Way back was much better. After Joshua Tree was it for me.

I wholeheartedly agree. The first several albums (probably through Joshua Tree) were very heavy on the delay...sort of a signature sound for that period. But then his style changed dramatically from Achtung Baby forward. Yes, it is often highly processed and effect-driven, but the layered and innovative guitar work usually sounds great to me. It is definitely not straight-ahead shredding, so if that is what defines a great rock guitarist then I can understand why many don't like/appreciate what he does.

"But I still haven't found the streets with no name" ding a ling a ling a ling a ling. All their shite sounds the same. They have ONE great song (and video) "Mysterious Ways", and THAT IS IT.

This has become quite the popular narrative recently. However, everything through Joshua Tree is great. Did they stay too long at the table? Probably so, but to call them the worst big band of all time is ludicrous.
