Same here. Nothing like waking up out of a dead sleep at 4 am thinking did I move that piece of shite or not. I have one kid that will make a beeline downstairs around 5am everyday looking for that dumb thing.

It’s like mall Santas back when respectable shoppers went to malls. When kids got suspicious and asked questions, you’d say they were Santa’s helpers.
The elf was a pain at times but nowhere near being told that I had to assemble bikes or a foosball table or whatever Santa brought after the kids went to bed on Christmas Eve. Seeing a box under the tree and having to experience delayed gratification while we assembled a gift on Christmas Day taught valuable life skills.

that stupid elf
When your kids get old enough to not believe in Santa (or the elf), you're gonna wish they still did.
It won't be a happy day, that's for damn sure.

I don’t understand why people make it so complicated with extra rules. Move the elf every night, make it do some mischief and move on. There’s entire blogs with ideas for the elf so you don’t even have to be creative. All these extra rules about when the elf moves or who can touch it are stupid, add nothing to the fun and just make it more complicated.
It’s magic. It doesn’t have to make sense. Just have fun and enjoy the memories. My 16 year old still laughs about some of the elf stunts we did.

Gen X didn't need no snitchin skinny elf to handle business. We got the belt and liked it!

Likin it may be a stretch
I look at it like this, there are still some spankings I remember to this day, 40 years later, and I know what I did that was stupid to deserve them.
How many kids that got put in "Time out" can remember what corner and what they did to deserve it, not many I say.
I hated them as a kid, but those lessons taught by a belt worked.

My six year old loves her elf and I enjoy seeing her look for it every morning, and even interact with it during the day. It's worth it.

Man if you have little kids that don’t quite understand Santa & the “magic” yet, don’t buy that frickin elf. It will more than likely be how your kids figure out that Santa doesn’t exist. There’s so many rules & everybody has different ones. The elf moves every night, the elf only moves if you’re bad and has to leave to tell Santa, some families have 1 elf, some have 1 per kid, why tf is there a “classroom elf”?, why TF does walkons have one swinging from the ceiling that the waitress keeps smacking every time she walks by it ? DAMMIT!
So PSA: it’s easier to make up 1 nice little white lie as to why Little Billy has an elf and your kid doesn’t than making up 17 rules & 23 lies about it. Leave that little fricker on the shelf…at WalMart
Ingenious marketing idea though
Why waste your time with the Santa lie?
Is it really so hard to do an easy thing that your kids will enjoy for years?

My kids could never decide if the elf is a boy or girl so the elf is a transexual name sparkles.
The kids love it and when they are bad I leave threatening letters from the elf. I just run out of ideas after a week.
I am making a zip line tonight.

If you can't manage the elf game, then you probably shouldn't be a parent.

I've never had one of those elves in my house, and never will. However, I also don't tell other people what to do in their houses. If you want it, fine. It is stupid however.

You'll get one eventually. Kids talk. The only difference is that you'll end up having to go get it at midnight 2 weeks before christmas somewhere because you fricked up and waited.

The people that cry about the elf are infinitely more annoying than the elf. God damn

My daughter came home from school and asked “why don’t we have an elf in our house?” I told her our dog would eat the elf. She accepted that answer and hasn’t asked again lol
