… and if so, what did you do with it?

We got $5,000 around 20 years ago and blew it on a big TV.

I used my $200K from my mom's life insurance as a down payment on our house.

The cash, some went to my son's college fund, some replaced flooring.

I'm inheriting a big chunk of land in Montana when my grandfather passes, hopefully NO time in the near future.

My grandmother died and left my mom $80k in 2003. My parents spent all of it on my college education, so I guess I did receive an inheritance.

My dad gave me mine while he was still alive and I left home and spent it all on whores. When I ran out of money, I moved back in with my folks, and my dad was delighted! My brother was pissed!

My wife’s great uncle left my son 50K for college. He was an eccentric old guy that lived to 96. He sold some land to Walmart so they could build a store. He had no children of his own.

We put it into a 529. It’s about 160K now. He’s in 10th grade so it should help out.

Yes.

Signed it all over to my mother after my dad died.

My dad's parents died after my dad, but we got no part of that inheritance.

Inherited oil and gas royalties from my mother. There are thousands of recipients and every year of the past 20 years I receive a check between $7.00 to $9.00, It has never eclipsed the $10.00 barrier. LOL

Dad worked for the D.O.D. When he died in 2004 My brother and I were given 33k each from his government life insurance. We wondered where the other 33% went. Come to find out it was given to my former stepmother. They had been divorced over 10 years. He has never changed his policy and remarried in 2002. So his new wife didn't receive a dime. If I remember correctly he had a chance to sign up for what was called a multiple of 2 or 5 (don't remember which), which would have paid out 200k up to half a million. All he had to do was sign the paper and pay a few extra dollars every month. He never got around to it I guess.

I inherited $5,000 20 years ago when my kids were very little to unborn.

I bought a pop-up camper and we took several trips a year. Still take the camper out with just the wife and I now.

It was money well spent.

That’s a pretty crazy story. Wonder if he just forgot about changing the beneficiary or he was still in love with her.

Shirley your step mom (new wife) received a house or something yea?
