That does not make it true.

Exactly, the inception of the BCS title game erased the possibility of split champions. The USC co-champ narrative is a totally fictional media creation.

USCs 03 “championship” is as real as UCFs 17 “championship”.

I’ve often confronted my USC friends on it and they go very sheepishly quiet. Usually resort to “we would’ve beaten LSU” and I tell them that irrelevant

It does bother me, but I take it up with the AP and the BCS more than I do USC fans. The AP voted them #1 and I know if LSU was in that position we'd claim it too.
After Sproles and Kansas State whipped OU 35-7 it should have been USC-LSU in that Sugar Bowl. Just like Nebraska shouldn't have played Miami in 2001 after Colorado beat them 62-36, it should have been Miami-Oregon.
shite like that is why we're going to real playoffs with conference champs getting auto bids. Settle it on the field, winning your conference matters, and splits will never happen again

When creating the BCS, every school agreed that the BCS would be the only recognized national champion.
Link? The schools didn’t agree to anything. The agreement was amongst the bowls and with the AFCA. The arrangement guaranteed that the winner of the BCS title would win A (not THE) national title by being ranked #1 in the coaches’ poll. There was no such agreement with the AP poll. It’s hard to argue that the team that was #1 in both polls at the end of the regular season, but was denied a chance to play in the title game because of computers, does not have a legitimate claim to a share of the title. Most everyone but LSU fans recognizes it as such.

It never happened. USC pipe dream.

They also had to vacate the 2004 natty. Thought it was funny they had that fake shite on the tv

The best part was in 2005 when they were going for the three-peat, which is and was, a zero-peat.

wrong! Division 1 schools voted to implement the BCS format of that time. A huge majority voted in favor. After 2003 Pete Carroll said He (USC) didn't know what they were voting for. /cough/ bullsh@t /cough/.
If you believe his sh@t, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
ETA: I couldn't find a link to the actual voting but here is a link with a quote from Chuck Amato and subsequent info in the next paragraph or two..

And you won’t find a single line in that document that spells out any agreement that the AP poll was obsolete or that teams had to accept the BCS title as the only title claim. It only obliged the AFCA to align their #1 with the winner of that game. There is no way, shape or form that allows you to claim that title claims between LSU and USC were settled on the field that season. It was decided by computers.

04 was vacated (see Reggie Bush), 03 was mythical, 05 would have been vacated had they won it.
So technically USC never won a championship in the Pete Carroll era.

Nope, you are right. Nothing in the agreement they voted for called for the AP to be obsolete, but the coaches voted for and agreed that the Winner of the BCS title game would be considered Champ. And at that time the BCS format included the AP poll.
Also, there was nothing in that agreement saying my personal poll was obsolete either. So basically The #1 in the AP poll carries as much weight as the #1 in my poll whether anyone likes it or not including you. The fact still remains that the winner of the game that coaches voted for as counting as the champ decider just happened to be LSU.
Nobody on the planet is saying USC didn't win the AP championship. But the AP poll is NOT the method of determining the champ as voted for almost unanimously, including USC. These are the facts.
I might agree with you if there wasn't this pesky little vote almost everyone agreed upon (again including USC).
Sorry.

The stupid part was people saying USC should’ve been in instead of LSU. Their beef was with Oklahoma getting in, not us.
I don't remember that. Way I remember it the national media was pushing the narrative that USC should have been in over Oklahoma who lost 35-7 to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game. I don't remember anyone questioning if LSU should be game.

They agreed the winner of the title game would be voted #1 in their POLL. From 1950 through the BCS there were two polls that were universally accepted as having some authority over deciding who was crowned as champions. You are now telling me that one of those two polls had the power to render the other one obsolete?
