Do I have to spend more than $300?

i'd get a benjamin sheridan if they still make those. idk the cost, but i'm sure they're not cheap. it would be more humane b/c those things are powerful as hell.

I have a .22 Gamo with break over barrel single pump operation. Kills squirrels dead. And if u happen to have a 10 pound mean-arse loud rooster that annoys you by crowing while you are trying to enjoy a few beers on the back porch, it will deliver a fatal shot at a distance of 40 yards with no problems. Shooting the rooster may, however, piss off the wife and grandkids. But at least it is peaceful on my back porch now.

A few 110 conibears in mink boxes will erase all existence of a squirrel in the general area but shoot them if you must

If you already own a .22, these are about the same noise as an air rifle.

I have a Gammo Silver Shadow with scope that I sent off to some guy in S. Carolina who 'tuned' it with different parts. It fires around 1200 fps and is very accurate. It has downed many a squirrel and chased off stray dogs who don't want to come back. It was under $200.
Should be able to get a 1000 fps Gammo for under $300.

You don't want to go over 1000fps or it will snap when the sound barrier is broken right?
Not sure where OP lives? I'd also personally prefer a air rifle over a .22 in case a neighbor reports you, I'd think police are likely to be more lenient with an air rifle over low fps .22?
Lastly, I bought a spring action break barrel .177 and its ok. Actually I think my MIL got it for me last Xmas or 2, but the spring is loud when shot. I'm not sure anyone would know its an air rifle, almost sounds like a tool like a nail gun. But its not quiet.

If you can find a Sig Sauer ASP20, jump on it. Powerful, accurate and somewhat quiet. It's my favorite gun ever.

Gammo wil get the job done. I started out that way and broke off into the PCP game. It got pretty expensive pretty quick for the equipment. I shoot a lot of different guns. My air rifle is by far the most accurate to about 50 yards. Stacks them up. FX Wildcat 25.

I have a gamo swarm magnum 22 caliber that’s killed a ton of squirrels. It has a 10 shot magazine and you just have to break open the barrel to cock it and it feeds a pellet in which makes it a little faster for follow up shots. I bought an extra magazine so I have 20 pellets ready to go if things get a little western. They go for about $300 on Amazon.

I have a 22 cal Weihrauch. Spring operated and very accurate. Kind of loud. Have a leupold rimfire variable power scope. They flop around but don’t run off. I’ve heard that .177 pellets will go right thru a squirrel and they’ll run off.

I have always preferred the Beeman line. Very accurate and hard hitting. If you pick the right models they will come with two barrels, a .177 and a .22 cal. Mine shoots the .22 cal pellet at 962 fps.

Gamo is pretty solid. I think I paid a little less than $200 for mine. I have killed many back yard tree rats with it.

Thanks to all for the input. I went with the Gammo whisperer .17.
Don’t want to scare the neighbors.

I’ve got an older Gammo break barrel .177 and its good, but loud as a .22 rifle almost. Definitely not for neighborhoods with uptight folks.
