I see both sides. The workforce for low paying jobs is terrible and a lot of young people do not want to work. It is frustrating when people constantly miss work. However, employers needs to stop acting like they are doing employees a favor allowing them to work.

Its really one of those deals where there need to be a common ground somewhere in the middle of the two mindsets, but its probably not going to get better anytime soon.

Workers are entitled and lazy. Manager is a raging bitch. Both things can be true at the same time and probably are.

I had an employee who had 5 grandmothers pass. Who am I to question his family dynamics? He was off and didn’t get paid.

I went to Taco Bell a week or so ago and a cone was blocking the drive thru. I was thinking that they must not have enough staff to open the drive thru, so I get out to go inside. When I get to the door, there's a sign that says "due to staffing issues, we aren't able to open".

I end up going to the other Taco Bell in town and they have a sign up that says that they're starting employees at 20 dollars an hr. $20 an hr and still can't get people to show up to their job.

Wait, what did I miss? What guy? Or did it just not state that she was born a male and I didn't catch that part?

Thank you for your biological contribution, if so.

I legit worked with a guy who never took a day off in the 33 year career he had over here. He left with over 400 annual and 400 sick days. He got paid for the annual which implemented a "use or lose" policy. He never bragged about it from what I heard.

After he retired, he died of cancer two years later at the age of 55.

I picked up a few shifts during the week at a restaurant down here this summer. It's unbelievable the laziness and terrible attitudes the vast majority of the servers had. You work on the beach life is pretty good

This. That manager acts like anyone working at olive garden truly gives a shite about their job. That's an easily replaceable job with almost unlimited options. How about be a better manager and adapt to the system rather than trying to force the system to what you want. Anticipate call ins because it's going to happen in that shitty line of work, and schedule more than needed. On the days everyone actually shows, send someone home early. There is always someone who wants to go home early in service industry, so over scheduling is never a problem.

that's a story that you hear way too often, never been shy about using sick time, I've heard quite a few guys nearing retirement comment that their only regret was not using more sick time over their careers

I'm 100% on Team Manager here. I've worked in the restaurant industry, and when you have multiple servers and cooks calling in at the last minute with bullshite excuses, it fricks EVERYONE over. It's better to be short-staffed and know it ahead of time and be able to plan accordingly than to have two servers and a cook call in at the last minute. Manager is 100% in the right here.

I can't say I blame her. They need all hands on deck this time of year. You can't meet their needs, those women's Sunday school classes will move their Christmas party reservations to the Mexican joint down the street with the quickness.

Part of their pay should be bonus that is paid monthly.

Perfect attendance = 100% bonus.
Miss work once = 50% bonus.
More than one day call in = 0 bonus.

I bet they don't miss work anymore.

I take one sick day a month. I get 18 hours per month. They're like timeouts in football, can't take them with you when it's over.

So were there people inside on the clock but just had the restaurant closed? If so, that's a pretty impressive level of not giving a frick
