This spark he just provided is why he shouldn’t start. His role coming off the bench is more important than starting

Kid needs to be starting. Coaches always say earn your time. Please reward him by starting him. PERIOD.

He is the best pick up by any team in the league in the past year when you look at production to contract. If you know one better, share it

They made an adjustment where he closes games now. That's more important than being a starter as long as he gets his minutes.

You can’t just start every good player. Otherwise your leads would get eaten alive.

It doesn’t amaze me he was undrafted. It amazes me that the pelicans were the ones lucky enough to get him.

Georgia Tech came out of nowhere to win the ACC tournament two years ago and then they were horrendous last year. Jose is amazing.

I thought he and Herb were grabbed because of their college's proximity to Birmingham. Figured they would headline the Squadron to get local interest up ... but holy shite, they were the finds of the century.

Only casuals care about which player starts. What matters is who closes, and he closed last night.

It shouldn't amaze you that he went undrafted. He was old and tiny.

I'm sure as shite glad we got him though

yeah, jose was small, older and was an inconsistent shooter. guys like that will rarely get drafted - though his senior season he took a leap from an efficiency standpoint making what he's done so far as a scorer not too out of left field.

Were there any draft analysts at all who had him getting drafted in their mocks?

I'd be surprised if there were, because, right after the draft, I think we were the only franchise to offer him a two-way contract. That's still a big scouting win, folks -- it's not just luck. No, literally no one believed Jose would develop the way that he has, but we had more belief in him than anyone else did.

Pels going off up to the 2nd seed, all this happening right around the same time that Bunchie has gone on somewhat of a hiatus...coincidence?

People want to know!

A mistake as often, except maybe if the player is really injury prone

Players who don’t have prototypical size tend to get heavily overlooked.

Also, I think there are guys who get feelers from teams in the second about whether they would sign if drafted with a second or if they would sign as an undrafted free agent (UDFA).

Terrence Davis is one such guy, who turned away feelers on draft night so he could pick his team. He ended up with Toronto, developed well enough to get a decent contract, and is now putting up good numbers for the Kings after being traded there.

In Davis’ case, I believe he knew he needed the right kind of team in order to catch on and one with a good history of player development like the Raptors was a perfect match for him.
