Real ID - La. Driver's License question

Question for you smart La. baws of the OT. I went into an OMV branch last week and got my regular DL renewed to November 2028. Completely forgot to inquire into this Real ID and if that's even a thing anymore. Does anyone know if there is still this "super" type ID requirement that will make my regular one obsolete within the next few years? And from a 10,000 foot view, what is the purpose of this advanced identification? Tia.

Just get a passport and you will be good for anything.

I got my DL renewed in September and they said in May 2023 it goes into effect. I didnt feel like going home and getting all kinds of other ID to verify I was me just to get the "Real ID".

The real ID isn't worth it if you have a passport.

There is. You will need it to fly. If you have a valid passport you will just need to bring that along if you don't get the "real ID"

I’ve had one for 3 years now. It’s really not that hard to get. Just have to bring a few extra pieces of ID.

I switched my license fron Colorado to Texas in 2020. Got my real ID when I did. It honestly didn't require much effort and it is nice not having to carry my passport all the time but I still do just in case.

I tried to get my real id and they said only vaccinated could get it
