Praise God! Mrs. Paula has been found safe and sound. She got turned around in the woods, stayed the night in a deer stand, then made her way to Calmes Rd this morning. Thank you for your prayers!!! ??
Read this on the bookface
Glad I could help.

Something i started doing a couple years ago was sharing my location on my phone with someone and if they don’t see my location change after dark and get a text saying I’m on the way home, they come looking for me where i said i was and where my location is showing
I was wrong last night… My cousin told me this mrng that she often went feed the deer without taking her phone. Hopefully she never makes that mistake again,
From what I understand the weather turned bad really fast right there and she had to seek shelter. She lost her sense of direction when things went sideways and the rain lasted until dark.
As much as everyone worried, she was smart to seek shelter and hunker down until daylight.

I spoke to her niece and this is correct. She got turned around and was headed south. This morning she continued south and wound up at someone’s home that she knew on Calmes Rd
Glad it worked out for her. Seriously though, if you find yourself lost in the woods it’s probably wise to stop moving. Continuing to move just creates panic. People don’t realize how far they can travel in a short amount of time.

Hey Brett. Long time no see.
How do they pronounce James? Some of them may like some bales in their coffee.

She found a right of way clearing for a pipeline that runs south of family property. She knew she had gotten off of her property based on the type and pattern of the trees. Their property line is fenced with barbed wire from eons ago and it is possible to cross over in some places without even realizing it.
She headed due south and just west of a family home/property just before hitting the pipeline where the box stand overlooked. She knew then she could follow the pipeline to Calmes.
Don’t read into the timelines much as far as when she told anyone she was going anywhere. The family was all nearby (within a couple hundred yard radius) and I think once she went missing and between the many times of passing along information the instances have gotten blurred and transposed time wise.
She got turned around with the weather, realized she had ventured off her property, got caught by the downpour and knew as she was losing daylight she needed to find somewhere to ride out the remainder of the weather and darkness.
It was thought she returned after putting out deer corn because the bucket was at home and empty, but she had poured it into an old pillow case to make it easier to carry given the conditions.
Nothing more, nothing less. No grand conspiracy or other made for TV type plot. Only the best case scenario given the circumstances.
Tremendous showing of support by the community between everyone that showed up to search, to those that supported family and volunteers by providing donuts, pizza and other food items and water.
And also an amazing showing of love and support by Mr. John Sumich of Oak Point for providing a TON of food and beverages for the volunteers/family. Please show his stores as much support as they provide for their community.

In the tv version she would make it to Bourbon St. just in time for Mardi Gras, woohoo.
In the Hallmark version there would be a hunter in the deer stand, etc...

quote:Just coincidentally a couple of weeks ago, my old man mentioned hearing about a drug and crime infestation near that end of Calmes Lane. We discussed how it was strange for that area to have a problem that close to Judge Chutz’s old childhood home. I haven’t heard anything specific, just that there was some nonsense happening on the north (east?) end of Calmes. Maybe someone got shot in there or something? I don’t specifically recall.
we have been out here for 8 years and haven’t heard about this. What are you hearing?

She actually ended up at the home of a Chustz. Not sure if related to the judge.

Anyway, Wayne basically owned the corner on Calmes, all the way down to the old Rudison place. To the best of my antiquated recollection, one of Wayne's boys ended up being a judge. Another one worked for LSP doing duty as a bodyguard for Mike Foster. A third son ran a gravel company that was pumping land around there. Those boys are probably in their 50s/60s by now, so I would imagine they have kids and grandkids of their own living around the old home place.
We always just assumed they were politically connected, so that's why the mention of a crime problem near there was surprising.
Anyway, we were thrilled to hear news of Ms. Paula's return, and I know the family was thankful for all the folks who provided resources and showed up to search. Our pastor even mentioned it in this morning's sermon.

Damn…just looking back at this post and didn’t realize it got so many downvotes. Guess I should have clarified that “taken care of” meant cared for and authorities notified… apologies
