We aren’t playing a high line against England
When has Gregg ever shown he isn’t tactically stubborn
He’s all about square pegs in round holes
He’s stuck only playing one way

I wish we would play Gio centrally as a 10. I think he’s so much better there then playing RW.
Him playing as our CAM is my wet dream

we will probably see a Musah Adams double pivot with Aaronson in the 10 position
I would prefer that, and sit Weston. He doesn’t seem to have it right now.

There have been games where he has made tactical adjustments or earlier substitutions that helped us win the game. Like the Honduras away match, for instance.
Who is a square peg in a round hole to you?

I don’t like Dest in this one - he can’t defend
Yedlin meh
They are gonna get burned on that side
Can we call up Some frick again?

I hate to say it, but I would bunker in in the back and play for a draw, and rest/protect the best attackers for the must-win game with Iran. Something like:
Turner
Yedlin-Long-Zim-CCV-Jedi
Musah-Adams-Acosta
Weah-Aaronson
Dest, McKennie, and Ream all picked up yellows and would miss Monday with another one. Acosta we can afford to lose.
I do not think Gio is healthy, otherwise we would have seen him Monday. If he is, he starts for Weah.

A majority of not only the squad but the entire player pool is not the type of player to try and be a fauex Barca or City
We have been over this plenty of times

Acosta
No chance I start him in this match
Way to careless with the ball and with the quality in the English midfield we would get punished for it
Midfield is the one area we are somewhat close to England with Adam, BA, Musah and Weston.

I don’t expect to have much of the ball, and Acosta is a decent defender/annoying persistent infringer. I’d have CCV & Jedi behind him to clean it up, just like I’d have Musah in front of Yedlin & Long to protect them. Not trying to win the match, just trying to get out of the group. If I have to beat what looks like a Top-4 England, I do it with a completely different lineup in the knockout round. US goal should be to make the group look something like this:
England-7
US-5
Wales-4, 2, or 1
Iran-3, 1, or 0
A draw with England means they have to beat Wales to be assured of winning the group. You don’t want a situation where they and Wales can split the points and both advance.

ETA: Also, if Iran and Wales draw, we can theoretically clinch advancement with a win over England.
How so?
Would be:
USA - 4
England - 3
Wales - 2
Iran - 1
If we lose to Iran, then it would come to goal differential, etc.

theoretically was the wrong word, but we basically clinch because we'd have to lose by like 3 goals to Iran to not.

Sargent better not see the field

Okay limey. Our midfield is on par with Englands.

Since Weah won’t play up top, I’d probably start Ferreira there since he can run like a deer. Use Weah as first off the bench

Pulisic being subbed on in 55th is potential chaotic energy. He plays so much better coming in against semi tired defenders. I wouldn’t be opposed to this

So we really need to draw with England somehow

If we draw or win, the odds will overwhelming be in our favor that we advance. If we lose, there will still be a decent chance, but we would need help from England.
Basically, just don't get blown out.

England pairs up incredibly well over a Wales team that is thin (on their third match), the political rivalry of the countries, and the fact they can break down the low block incredibly well (look at Iranian match).
