From what I understand its believed the brain is re organizing your memory files during REM sleep.

It's the brain making you take a DMT trip. Same thing likely happens when we die or are close to death. Brain releasing chemicals as usual.

They are weird. Last night I met a guy for lunch that I haven’t seen or remember even thinking about for over 20 years.

Meanwhile one of my best friends was the hostess. Lol. What the hell?

I have not had a flying dream that I remember in a long time. I do keep having these “heavy leg” dreams, which are annoying

I choke on my teeth a lot. I don’t need a dream journal to remember that recurring gem.

I rarely remember my dreams, but one night last week I woke up in a panic.

I was dreaming that I was in my garage when a tornado dropped down in the road in front of my house. I've never experienced a dream so intense. Not sure what spawned a dream like that, but my heart was racing when I woke up.

It's not a human-specific phenomenon.

Other species dream too

My dog dreams. He chases shite, barks at shite, yelps, farts. It’s pretty funny sometimes.

Part of me thinks our dreams are some sort of gateway to another dimension. Sleep paralysis for example. I get what it is, but there are consistent images from person to person.

Isn't that the way it really happens. I always wonder if the rest of you are real. It's mind blowing.

Sleep in general is weird if you think about it. Scientists are mixed on why it occurs and why we need it

Yesterday afternoon, I dreamed that I was in college but I could not remember the classes that I signed up for. My memory was blank. I went to the dorms to check to see if my schedule was in my mailbox but it wasn't. I remember thinking that I am in college but I am 55 years old. What am i doing going to college ? And then I woke up.

My dog is dreaming right now and it is probably about hunting small ground game.

Last night I dreamed me and a girl I went on two dates with probably 20 years ago were on a ski trip and having a good time. The dream went on for prob a week and before I woke up at some point I started wondering about my real life wife and if she would find out.

Note, I don’t even remember this girls name, just face. Nothing memorable and haven’t thought about that person since our last random date decades ago. I’ve also never cheated or thought about realistically cheating on my wife.

Life is but a dream. Write down your dreams when you wake up. Then control them, you shall.

I read a study of a theory on memories and the most interesting facet was that when we recall a memory, we “take it out” of its memory bank and we “put it back in” when we are done thinking about it. This explains how some (not all) memories seem to change over time. Made sense to me anyway.

So maybe dreams are our brains’ way of de-fragmenting our memories.

Want to get even more confused about dreams?

Prior to color tv, most people would dream in grayscale.

This has been reproduced in studies where kids are shown only black and white tv shows.
