All inclusive- yes or no?

all inclusive is never worth it unless u need to eat 5 meals a day and get blackout drunk non stop. You are still paying for the drinks and meals because the all inclusive place is more expensive.

If you want quantity, you will sacrifice quality.

Eh not trying to argue but I always find all inclusive resorts to be significantly cheaper than a tradition luxury resort. Just used the same dates in March 2023 to compare Sandals Grand St. Lucian to Sugar Beach Viceroy. Viceroy was $10,200 for the cheapest room for 6 nights and the Sandals was $6,400.

Yeah, there are different varieties of high end and the true high end resorts have good food and beverage. They also tend to cost $$$$$.

Jade Mountain.

Jade itself has one restaurant. The food is quite good there - not amazing, but good.

We also get access to three other restaurants at their sister property, Anse Chastanet. Anse Chastanet is on the beach and runs up the mountain with Jade at the top. Chastanet has a vegan tapas restaurant (wtf), an “international cuisine” restaurant, and a Caribbean/Indian restaurant. We did the Caribbean buffet at the last one and it was terrible. And I like Caribbean food.

The only other all-inclusive we’ve stayed at was in the Turks. Ambergris Cay. The food and drink there was shockingly bad. Ambergris Cay is a smaller resort on its own island and this was during the pandemic. I figured maybe they were struggling at the time.

My point is — in my limited experience — the food and beverage at all-inclusives is noticeably worse than comparable properties with a la carte dining. This seems to apply at even higher end resorts.

My comparisons are with Nayara and the Four Seasons in Costa Rica and the Nautilus and Milhaidoo in the Maldives.

Not trying to be an arse here. We are into food. I’m trying to get a sense of whether the all inclusive model means they inevitably cut back on food quality compared to pay as you go (it’s obvious they cut back on liquor).

I should add that Jade Mountain is stunning. I am blessed to be able to travel well, and I am fully aware how fortunate we are. I post on the travel board because people here are into travel - whether it’s a campground in the Smokies to an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora. Everyone here has travel aspirations and something to offer.

Ive only stayed at one all inclusive and will never stay at one again. Not how i like to travel. food was horrible and i felt like i would get food poisoning.

I think you are right that all inclusive generally means lower quality items unless you are at one of the very expensive properties. I always think they water down the liquor at the ones I’ve been to.

It’s also ridiculous that the first post is chastising you to be thankful for asking a reasonable question on a travel board.

Most all inclusives aren’t worth it. There a some brands that are. Sandals isn’t one of them.
