Don't go to the manufacturer's websites shop around at other dealerships. You may have to go out of state to do it.

I sold cars at one point in my life and it was a miserable existence.

Never take a trade-in to a dealership. That's when you lose all of your leverage and the voodoo and funny stuff kicks in. Sell it yourself and then just use whatever you make of the sale towards the down payment.

Be careful with the Finance & Insurance manager. He's usually the craftiest and slickest person on the lot.

Order your car and work out the details before it even arrives.

I was told by the Houston Lexus dealership they are not allowed to sell outside of their "region". Texas is actually in my region, but its not like I can search nationally for the car.

They wont allow anyone to order a car.

Call them and try to order a car and see what they tell you. I find it mindblowing.

Do you not know how to use cars.com?

There are 1,401 new Lexus ES vehicles for sale in the US currently.

Let me do all your work for you

Ok cool. I want a black hybrid with navigation.

Good luck...because there are 0 and you cant order one.

I was also told by Houston that I CAN NOT order outside of the region (idk protected sales territories maybe)

Wait, there's no frickin cars on the lot, I'll just order one.
Luckily, I didn't have to deal with any of that.

Ordered my car in probably less than 5 minutes...though it did take 4 months ot have it delivered.

Online, customize to my liking, took 5 minutes. Also got it with a Lightstream loan, received the money the day after I applied for the loan. Easy peasy.

Depends on what you consider "order" to be. Outside of the LFA Lexus has never done factory orders. They batch-produce cars. So when you went in and specced your build the dealer was able to find one in the system either built, being built, or in the factory queue. Lexus, as well as all the other Japanese car companies, limit options so factory orders are not really necessary, in the general retail world it is similar to keeping the number of SKUs low and has advantages in efficiency.
