Damn that angle shows how bad the impact with ground was for both planes. Don’t see how anyone survived that.

Looks like something right out of the Dogfights episode of SonderKommando Elbe.

Do they not plan or choreograph these things? Should they have more than 1 flying at a time if they are just willy nillying with no plan? I'm not familiar with how air shows work.

Loss of life is obviously tragic and the most important thing, but the loss of one of the last still flying B17s is sad too.
The smaller plane (P-51??) was in a hard banked turn and the underside of his plane was possibly obscuring the view. Not sure who controls airspace at an airshow - ATC or the show operators - but someone should have been spotting and radioed to help keep those planes apart, both altitude and across the ground.

of course i wish it hadn’t happened but thankful it was over for them quick
so sad
that one vid shared showed a good amount of planes (unless they were birds) in the same airspace
that’s just begging for an acciident to happen

Terrible ATC and who ever that piloted the smaller plane

Unfortunately I am hearing 7 dead; 6 on the bomber and the lone pilot of the P63.

It looks chaotic to have that many planes up unorganized in such a small area

That's about as bad a number as we could have possibly heard

Whenever I watch YouTube videos about these old craft that are still flying, I’m always a bit alarmed at the age of the pilots.

Unless you’re the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds there should not be 2 planes in the air at the same time.

Took a picture of the Cobra with a P38 with my Mustang Cobra and Ford Lightning between the airplanes at a Shreveport Downtown fly in around 2000.
Boss man actually flew on a B17 to Natchitoches that day. Different B17 though. Think it was Aluminum Overcast.

My first thought off of that view is damn there’s a lot of planes in the air in a small amount of air. Space.

Damn…that sucks.
There aren’t that many vintage B-17s left now.
